AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THECONWAY HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2017REGION 6 CLASSAAAAACHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Conway High girls basketball team of Horry County captured the region championship at Carolina Forest High School in Myrtle Beach on Monday, February 6, 2017; and

Whereas, to the delightof their exuberant fans, the Conway LadyTigers defeated a competitive Carolina Forest Panther team in a nailbiting 5957 finish; and

Whereas, after backtoback region losses, the team’s only two of the season, the Lady Tigers battled all night for control of the game with Carolina Forest, who sent Conway to the lockers at halftime down 3332, and the scoreremainedclose for the rest of the game; and

Whereas, the Lady Panthers and the Lady Tigers both entered the final game of the season with a 72 record, so the Region 6 Class AAAAA girls basketball championship came down to the last game of the regular season, a game that went down to the final seconds to determine the game’s winner and the region’s champion; and

Whereas, senior Zakera Chadmon for the Lady Tigers posteda teamhigh eighteen points and hit the gamewinning basket with one second remaining in the game. She had five rebounds, along with seven assists and two steals; and

Whereas, teammate Janecia (Neci) Hemingway recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11rebounds, along with 3 blocks and2 steals. Lenaejha Evans also had14points with 2 assists and4rebounds, and Christain Moore had 13points and 3steals; and

Whereas, although the Lady Panthers advanced to the Final Four for the state championship, they lost to Goose Creek High School, but had a region championship to help mend their wounds; and

Whereas, a team captain,Lenaejha Evans was named to AllState, All Region, AllHoop Zone, and Toast of the Coast 1st teams. Also a team captain, Neci Hemingway was namedto AllRegion, AllHoop Zone, and Toast of the Coast 2nd teams, and Zakera Chadmon was named to the AllRegion Team; and

Whereas, by posting an 82 record in the region and a 177overall, Conway took the team’s first region championship since 1983, ending a thirtyfouryear drought for the Lady Tigers; and

Whereas, in a sport that demandsstrength, agility, and accuracy, Head Coach Shamae Hemingway, Region 6, AAAAA Coach of the Year,and her skilled Assistant Coach Tymesha Hosch capitalized on their own athletic ability and training to hone a championshipcaliber team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the court; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the pride and recognition that the Conway basketball players have brought to their school and their community, andthe members look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Conway High School girls varsity basketball team, coaches, and school officials for anoutstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2017 Region 6,ClassAAAAAChampionship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal J. Lee Jamesand Coach Shamae Hemingway.
