RMIT Business is one of the largest Business Schools in Australia and is based at 239 Bourke Street in Melbourne’s Central Business District. RMIT Business On-line is one of five key Groups located in the Office of the Dean RMIT Business.

RMIT Business On-Line will provide a high quality, monitored and continuously improved services to students and staff in the areas of student support, information technology and on line teaching and learning support. The quality of these services is critical to the on going success of the Faculty and will differentiate RMIT Business in an increasingly competitive market place.

Specific objectives include;

  • Manage and improve the student - RMIT relationship interface across a range of on-line activities and providing an integrated client relationship.
  • Develop a Faculty IT strategy addressing the requirements of our Teaching and Learning and Research Investment Strategies, and supporting the strategic directions of the Faculty.
  • Provision of quality IT teaching and staff computing facilities and, with the assistance of the Manager, Teaching & Learning Online, the implementation and management of ITAP/ LTS activities/ initiatives and responsible for management of associated budgets.
  • Manage student related services including those which are provided /undertaken through computer technology.

The Group has three main Units each of which has a strategic and operational focus. These areInformation Technology Services, Online Teaching and Learning, and the

Client Services Unit.

Information Technology Services Unit

The IT Unit will provide strategic advice regarding hardware and software solutions to assist in implementation of the Faculty IT strategic plan. Provision of quality IT and Audio Visual facilities, together with customer focused IT and Audio visual services for both staff and students will be a critical function of the Unit.

Online Teaching and Learning Unit will work with guidance from Learning Technology Services and in conjunction with staff from the Associate Dean Academic Services. The group will provide strategic advice and direction regarding current and future trends in online learning and teaching practice. Operational activities include provision of educational design and production support to staff in schools, address the initiatives of ETEC IT, liaise with LTS and working with ITAP budget.

Client Services Unit will work closely with Schools and the two other groups in the Unit to implement the Faculty Client Relationship Management strategy. Operationally the group will be responsible for Faculty based student support services and student relationship management.

4.JOB SUMMARY

This position has been created to assist the Educational Design Team implement RMIT Business’s strategic program development agenda, to achieve its first semester 2002 targets.

The Educational Development Support Officer is responsible for providing administrative support to the Educational Design Team, including tasks associated with program development, permissions and copyright issues, and web design.

5.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The position reports through the Team Leader, Educational Design to the Manager, Online Teaching and Learning, RMIT Business Online.

6.SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

Position Accountabilities

6.1To work with the Instructional Design team assisting with the development of the first semester 2002 online programs: assist with courseware development, content construction, using web technologies where required. Working with academics and providing a broad range of skills to respond to the development team’s requirements.

6.2To assist with the implementation of EQA procedures and processes by ensuring guidelines are adhered and the processes of documentation, recording and archiving are effectively implemented.

6.3To support the Teaching and Learning Unit with activities leading towards the implementation of the University and Faculty Teaching and Learning Strategic priorities. This might include testing products and course structures, content editing, monitoring courseware within web environments, and assisting the course teams and academics to manage and maintain courseware within the DLS.

6.4To provide proof reading and editing services as required to support online delivery development.

6.5To collaborate with members of the program development teams and educational development and production staff on projects undertaken by RMIT Business Online’s Teaching and Learning Educational Design Team.

6.6To provide administrative support for online development projects as required.

6.7To contribute to the strategic direction setting and policy making processes of the University and the Section by participating in key Group, Section and University forums and undertaking specific Section level project/tasks.

7.QUALIFICATIONS

A tertiary qualification in education or communication, OR experience in education and training and online learning development environment.
