Materials:Small plastic or real fruits, box, rope, fruits flashcards,
Methods and techniques:"Fruit Rope Jump" game, the fruit wall touch game, teaching vocabulary with objects.
Aim of the lesson: To say different fruits (apples, bananas, oranges, grapes, melons, pineapples, lemons, strawberries, peaches, apricot, grapefruit, watermelon, cherry, pear) and talk about likes
OBJECTIVES:
- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize the names of fruits.
- By the end of the lesson,students will be able to ask about and say the names of the fruits they like.
ACTIVITIES:
- The teacher greets the class and brings small plastic or real fruits into a small box to the class. Then T takes out the box and shake it – the rattling sound will instantly alert the students. The teacher opens the box and pulls out a fruit, and then asks "What’s this?" Elicit / Teach the name and chorus x3. The teacher mimes biting the fruit and chewing, and then say "Yummy!". Then he/she holds the fruit in front of each student to let them take an imaginary bite. The teacher encourages them to say "yummy!" or even "yuk!". The teacher repeats with the other fruits.
- The teacher takes a length of rope and lays it across the floor at one end of the classroom. On one side T places fruit and the box. The teacher hasthe students line up on the other side of the rope. The teacher says “(students’ name), put the (apple) in the box". The student runs up to the rope, jumps over the rope (T says "Jump!”) and selects the correct fruit and puts it in the box. The teacher instructs each student to do the activity.
- The teacher takes out fruit flash cards. Then T takes one and says "Yummy! I like (apples)!". The teacher puts it to her/his right side. The teacher takes another fruit flashcard and does the same. Next, T takes a fruit flashcard and says "Yuk! I don’t like (melons)" and puts it to her/his left. Tkeeps going with the rest of the fruit until the teacher has some fruits (likes) on her/his right and some (dislikes) on her/his left. T puts the fruit her/his like in front of her/him and says “I like apples, grapes, pineapples … etc.). Then T asks a student "What fruit do you like?" and encourages him/her to say "I like …" and list the fruit he/she likes. The teacher goes around the class asking each student the question.
- The teacher holds up each picture of fruits, elicits the fruit and walks around the room taping them to the walls (at a height that his/her students can reach). The teacher says "What fruit do I like?" and then runs around the room touching each fruit that he/she likes saying "I like ~" as he/she touches each fruit. Then the teacher gets all of his/her students to stand up and say to them "What fruit do you like?". The teacher allows them to run around the room touching fruit (T encourages them to say "I like~" as they touch).
