2017-18 NORTH BAY HAVEN HONOR CLUBS

North Bay Haven Career Academy has eight Honor Clubs. Membership requirements, due dates for application, and qualifications for acceptance vary by club. Listed below you will find contact information and due dates for the 2017-18 school year. All honor clubs will participate in a Joint Honor Club Induction Ceremony scheduled for Monday, November 13, 2017 at 5:30 PM. Official invitations will follow from each club after all individual club requirements have been met and/or verified. Deadlines vary and dues must be paid to each individual club sponsor to complete the membership process. Please honor the deadlines. Late dues will not be accepted.

BETA CLUB
/ FACULTY CONTACT: Ms. Schaefer (239) -
HOW DO I JOIN? By invitation. Members must have and maintain an unweighted 3.0 GPA, and must be in grades 10-12.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: September 15 to Ms. Schaefer in Room 239.
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE DATES: September 4-15
CLUB DUES: $35 one time (Cord fee is a separate $15 fee due prior to graduation if you qualify)
PROCESS FOR COLLECTING DUES: After applying, you will be notified if you have been accepted. At that time you will be given a deadline for paying your dues to Ms. Schaefer. After paying dues you will be given information about the Joint Honor Club Induction Ceremony.
MU ALPHA THETA
/ FACULTY CONTACT: Mrs. Flood (202) -
HOW DO I JOIN? By application. Members must have and maintain a 3.0 unweighted math G.P.A. AND must have completed Algebra I and Geometry, AND must be in grades 9-12.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: September 15 to Mrs. Flood in Room 202.
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE DATES: September 4-15. See your math teacher for application or see the Mu Alpha Theta sidebar on Mrs. Flood’s website.
CLUB DUES:A onetime payment of $25 due after being notified of your acceptance
PROCESS FOR COLLECTING DUES: After applying, you will be notified if you have been accepted. At that time you will be given a deadline for paying your dues to Mrs. Flood. After paying dues you will be given information about the Joint Honor Club Induction Ceremony.
NATIONAL ENGLISH HONOR SOCIETY
/ FACULTY CONTACT: Ms. Vaughn (109) -
HOW DO I JOIN? Scholars must complete the application process, attend the equivalent of one semester at NBH prior to being considered (If special circumstances merit, the Faculty Advisory Council may waive the semester regulation), complete the equivalent of two semesters of English, and achieve a minimum overall and English grade point average of a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) prior to induction as members.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: September 15 to Ms. Vaughn in Room Room 109.
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE DATES: September 4-15
CLUB DUES:One-time payment of $40 (includes cord/pin) after being notified of your acceptance.
PROCESS FOR COLLECTING DUES:After applying, scholars will be notified of acceptance. They will be given a deadline for paying your dues to Ms. Vaughn. After paying dues you will be given information about the Joint Honor Club Induction Ceremony.
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
/ FACULTY CONTACT: Mr. Polous (101) -
HOW DO I JOIN? By invitation. Candidates must be a Junior or Senior, have been in attendance for a period of two quarters at North Bay Haven Career Academy, AND have a minimum of a 3.5 unweighted GPA or a 3.75 weighted GPA. Upon meeting grade level, GPA and attendance requirements, candidates will then be considered based on service, leadership and character.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: September 15 to Mr. Polous in Room 101
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE DATES: September 4-15
CLUB DUES: Onetime payment of $55 (Juniors- includes stole fee) or $40 (Seniors-includes stole fee)
PROCESS FOR COLLECTING DUES: Payment is due upon notification of acceptance into NHS to MrPolous. No payments will be accepted after October 5th.
NATIONAL TECHNICAL HONOR SOCIETY
/ FACULTY CONTACT: Mrs. Pozen (225) or Mrs. Herring (220) -
HOW DO I JOIN? By application. Students must have completed two of three CTE courses in designated program (Criminal Justice, Computer Science, Engineering, or Health Sciences) with a 3.5 or higher unweighted GPA in CTE AND weighted 3.0 overall GPA. See application for specific courses needed. To receive honor cords, students must have completed the third course in designated program, pay cord fee, and maintain other GPA standards.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: September 15
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE DATES: September 4-15. Applications available from CTE teachers (Herring, Nash, Normand, Pozen) and must be completed and given to either MrsPozen or Mrs. Herring.
CLUB DUES: $40 one time (cord fee is a separate $15 fee due prior to graduation if you qualify)

QUILL & SCROLL
/ FACULTY CONTACT: Ms. Lensink (112) -
HOW DO I JOIN? By invitation. Students must have done superior work in some phase of journalism or school media work. They must be in grades 10-12, and must have an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher. Ms. Lensink will invite qualified students to join.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: September 15
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE DATES: September 4-15
CLUB DUES: $25 one time (cord fee is a separate $15 fee due prior to graduation if you qualify)
PROCESS FOR COLLECTING DUES: Dues will be submitted with the application.
SCIENCE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

HOW DO I JOIN? By application. Students must be in 11th or 12th grade and maintain at least a 3.6 unweighted science GPA with advanced/honors science courses. See application for specific courses. Applications available in Room 221.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: September 15
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE DATES: September 4-15
CLUB DUES: $20 first time, $15 following years
PROCESS FOR COLLECTING DUES: After applying, you will be notified if you have been accepted. At that time you will be given a deadline for paying your dues to Mrs. Cathey. After paying dues you will be given information about the Joint Honor Club Induction Ceremony.
TRI-M (MODERN MUSIC MASTERS)

/ FACULTY CONTACT: Mr. Gray (Band Room) -
HOW DO I JOIN? Students recommended by their music director will receive invitations to Tri-M, and the students must then submit an application. Students must be involved in a music class or ensemble at least one semester of the school year, a B letter grade or better in music and a C letter grade or better overall, and continued character strength that includes demonstration of service, leadership, and cooperation.
APPLICATION DEADLINE:September 15
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE DATES: September 4-15. Applications available from Mr. Gray or Mrs. Paige.
CLUB DUES: $15 annual fee (does not include cord fees for seniors)
PROCESS FOR COLLECTING DUES: After applying, you will be notified if you have been accepted. At that time you will be given a deadline for paying your dues to Mr. Gray. After paying dues you will be given information about the Joint Honor Club Induction Ceremony.
