Application Instructions for

2016 Spouse Education Fund (SEF) Grant

We welcome your interest in and application for a grant ($100 - $500) toward local academic and professional development opportunities. All of the Spouse Education Fund grant funds are donated by the community, so the amount of available funding varies each year. Grants are awarded primarily according to financial need, as well as relevance, future impact and motivation.

ELIGIBILITY

Applications are restricted to spouses and/or partners of current Stanford international students, post-docs, and visiting scholars on F-2 or J-2 visas. First-time applicants only. (Spouses of Stanford employees are not eligible. Neither the applicant nor the spouse can hold American citizenship.) The grants must be used for courses/programs that are completed by December 2017.

Application deadline: Thursday, November 10, 2016 at midnight

COMPLETING THE APPLICATION

Please follow these application instructions carefully.

1.  Insert a passport size photograph of yourself on page 1 of the SEF application in the space provided;

2.  Complete each field in the application.

3.  If you have any questions about the application, please send an email to: or contact SEF Committee members Dolly Verplank, Gwyn Dukes or Sande Stuart at the Friday Morning Coffee.

4.  It is VERY important to provide SPECIFIC course information in the application section on “Proposed Use of Award.” We suggest you list 1st and 2nd choices, since courses are sometimes cancelled;

5. Save the application as a Microsoft Word document, named

‘2016 SEF App - <Your First Name> <Your Last Name>’. (If, for example, your name is Sally Brown, name the Word document ‘2016 SEF App – Sally Brown’);

6. In the ‘subject’ field of your email put: ‘SEF application -- <your name>” (This way we can track your SEF application.) We will notify you that we have received your application.

SCHEDULING YOUR INTERVIEW WITH THE SEF COMMITTEE

The SEF Committee will hold a 15-minute interview with eachapplicant in the Post Room at the Bechtel International Center between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., November 14 through 17. When you have submitted the application, be sure to sign up for an interview, using the link at the bottom of the application. If you cannot find a convenient time for an interview, contact us. We encourage you to apply early for the best choice of interview times.

Grant awards will be presented at a reception on Tues., Dec. 6, from 4 to 5:30 PM at the Bechtel I-Center.

Be sure to check carefully that the course(s) you select will be available between January and December of 2017, and that you are eligible to enroll. (Please note: SEF funds are not available for the study of English as a Second Language, except for programs in Teaching ESL.)

INTERVIEWS
