2016 LMGA MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL, KICK-OFF TOURNAMENT, TWILIGHT GOLF LEAGUE & EVENT CALENDAR
After seeing the golf course at the end of last year, I am sure you are all anxious for the start of the 2016 season. The difference in the course conditions over the past two years has been astonishing. We are very lucky to have Superintendent Michael Golden back for the 2016 season, and for those of you that know him and see him and his team on the course, know that we will see even more improvement this year. The LMGA Board has been meeting throughout the winter and planning for the upcoming year. We expect another great season for all of the LMGA members.
All of your favorite tournaments are back (please see attached schedule) and we look forward to welcoming new participants as well as those of you who have played in the past. Thanks to the handicap system, everyone is good enough to play! This year we willbe instituting a tournament point system which will allow us to name a player of the year and at the same time will allow us to reduce handicaps in tournaments should any one player accumulate a certain number of points from placing in several tournaments (for more information please see Popeoftheslope.com). Last year we moved the Baldwin Stroke Play Tournament to September, changed the Club Championship to two weekends from three, added flights, and even added “The Onion”, a one day member-member in September. It was fully booked and everyone who played in it enjoyed the camaraderie and competition. Last year also saw several changes to the Member Guest which were met with great acclaim. The most significant was the end of tournament Shoot-Out, which pitted the winners of each flight on the 18th to decide the overall winner. Several contestants are still recovering from the emotional scars of this high intensity finish.
The Gilardi Kickoff Tournament and annual spring meeting is scheduled for Saturday April 30th where we will introduce the board and get an update on season plans and initiatives, and hear from the staff on planned course improvements. The annual dues for 2016will not increase and therefore will remain $80 prior to May 1st and $100 from May 1st onward. Both Junior and Senior players will have discounted rates. Please see the attached application for details and note the deadlines for the Kickoff Tournament and the Twilight League.
The course should be in amazing shape as continued work and attention has brought the course conditions to a level not seen in many years. If you happen to find yourself in one of the many sand traps, enjoy raking the trap with the new rakes which have been provided to the course compliments of the LMGA. We are excited to provide you first-rate tournaments where you can compete and vie for first-rate prizes, have fun and enjoy the camaraderie that only golf can provide. Wishing you all the best for the 2016 golf season. Yours in service,
Peter Krieger
