PowerChart Basics
Logging In
1. Double-click the PowerChart icon.
The MU Health Care Network log on window will appear.
2. Type in your University Hospital/Campus email or network username and password.
The Log on to field will display UMHS-USERS by default. This location is the most common for hospital and clinics employees. MU students will need to change the location to TIGERS by using the pull-down menu to the right.
3. Click the OK button. The Cerner Log on window will appear.
4. Type in your Cerner/PowerChart username and password.
5. Click the OK button.
The Organizer Toolbar Icons

1. Find Patient: Perform a patient search using name, MRN or FIN (Visit) number.
2. Open Additional Chart: Use to open multiple charts simultaneously.
3. Change User: Logs current user out to Cerner log in, allows new user to log in.
4. Suspend Application: Same as Change User, except current username is retained.
5. Exit: Closes application completely.
6. Launch Application: Links to resources outside of PowerChart.
7. Launch Clinical Calculator: Launches the Clinical Calculator.
8. Ad Hoc Charting: Opens Ad Hoc Charting window to display the PowerForm library.
9. Print: Prints the current window.
10. As Of...(Refresh): Displays the time of last refresh. Click to manually refresh.
PowerChart Organizer Tabs
1. Patient List: Displays default location lists and user-defined lists.
2. Multi-Patient Task List: Displays tasks assigned to a specific user group.
3. Inbox: Used to sign/review transcribed documents and receive forwarded documents.
4. Patient Access List: A multi-function customizable patient list.
Opening a Patient Chart – Find Patient
1. Click on the Find Patient icon. The Patient Search window will appear.
2. Enter the information that you are using to perform the search in the appropriate field (Ex: Name, MRN, SSN, or FIN (Visit) number).
3. Click on the Search button.
4. Choose the correct patient from the upper field.
5. (Optional) Select the desired FIN (Visit) from the lower field. If you do not select a FIN, PowerChart will default to the current or next future FIN.
6. Click the OK button.
7. If prompted, choose an appropriate relationship with the patient.
The patient chart will open in a new window.
Opening a Patient Chart – Patient Lists
1. Double click on the patient’s name from the patient list.
2. If prompted, choose an appropriate relationship with the patient.

The Patient Chart
The colored demographic bar contains links to the patient information tab
Patient Information Tab: Consists of 4 sub-tabs:
· Patient Demographics: basic patient demographic information
· PPR Summary: Patient-Provider relationship summary
· Visit List: Comprehensive list of all past, current, and future patient visits
· Allergies: Lists all current allergies, adverse reactions, and adverse reactions.
Flowsheet Tab: A comprehensive view of results, reports, documents, and documentation.
· Right-click on the teal Information Bar to change the search criteria and display more or less results.
· Use the Seeker (on the Tool Bar) to quickly navigate through the Flowsheet.
· Check the box next to any numeric category to activate the Graph button on the Tool Bar. Click the Graph button to display a graph of the available information.
· Double click any result to view more details about the result.
· Use the Flowsheet pull-down menu to view other specialty service flowsheets
List View Flowsheet Tab: An alternative view of the data found in the Flowsheet.
· Right-click on the teal Information Bar to change the search criteria and display more or less results.
· Click the Event Date or Event column heading to sort the data within the column.
· Double click any result to view more details about the result
Clinical Notes Tab: Displays electronically charted and transcribed provider documents
· Right-click on the teal Information Bar to change the search criteria and display more or less results.
· Double-click on the Navigator folders in the left panel to access documents.
· Use the Navigator buttons in the left panel to arrange folders as desired.
Form Browser Tab: Displays all in-progress, final, and modified PowerForms.
· Right-click on the teal Information Bar to change the search criteria and display more or less results.
· Double-click on any form to view the form.
· Right-click on any form to access editing/printing features.
· Use the Sort by: pull-down menu to arrange the PowerForms as desired.
Intake & Output Tab: Displays/summarizes electronically charted input and output data.
· Right-click on the teal Information Bar to change the search criteria and display more or less results.
· Time/date columns are in chronological order from left to right.
· Click on Select Time Scale (clock on toolbar) for summary options.
Orders Tab: May not be fully functional for all users, consists of 2 sub-tabs:
· New Orders: Used by authorized users to place electronic orders into the chart
· Existing Orders: Displays all existing orders. Use the VIEW button to sort/filter orders.
