RACE 1 – TALBOT HOTEL PACE – 1609 METRES

SPARKLING NZ was out of position at the start. Connections have been advised that this mare will continue to be drawn outside the draw in future mobile start events.

Racing into the first turn shortly after the start, SIGN NO MORE was momentarily inconvenienced when Paul Ashwood (SWEET PEA JASPER) elected to restrain outside the leader resulting in SIGN NO MORE and SPARKING NZ, who was trailing SIGN NO MORE, both being inconvenienced. SIGN NO MORE subsequently pulled hard throughout the early stages of the event.

Racing off the back straight soon after the start, JUST LIKE ELLE (Christian Slater) was inclined to hang in and at the same time SPARKLING NZ was inclined to hang out when both attempted to take a position in the one out line behind SIGN NO MORE resulting in JUST LIKE ELLE racing closer to the pegs and relinquished his position in the one out line. Driver Christian Salter was subsequently reprimanded under AR 163(3) for half carting in that when racing off the back straight on the first occasion after initially hanging in and subsequently relinquishing his position in the one out line to SPARKLING NZ, Mr Salter trailed the outside sulky wheel of PHAROAH’S WRATHwho was racing in front of this gelding on the peg line for an extended period.

PHAROAHS WRATH was held up for clear racing room over the concluding stages.

PERFECT PAIGE broke when racing down the home straight on the final occasion. Connections have been advised that this mare has been placed on its last chance to race truly.

SPARKLING NZ underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

Stewards reminded driver Rohan Hillier (MACFIRE NZ) of his obligations to ensure he remains on the gate until the start is affected by the starter.

Stewards spoke to trainer Mr R Ashwood in relation to SPARKLING NZ’s apparent poor performance. Mr Ashwood stated that he could offer no explanation for the mare’s performance but in his opinion thought the mare may have been suffering from a virus. Mr Ashwood further stated that it was his intention to have the mares bloods tested and would provide the results of this test to the Office of Racing Integrity when they became available.

Driver Christian Salter (JUST LIKE ELLE) was reprimanded under AR 156(2) for using his whip with a free hand on two occasions prior to the 200 meters.

Driver Christian Salter (JUST LIKE ELLE) was subsequently fined the sum of $200 for his excessive whip action over the concluding stages under AR 156(3) (b).

RACE 2 – ALLEN WILLIAMS MEMORIAL HEAT ONE – 2090 METRES

The start of this event was delayed 2 minutes due to Albion Park harness race 2 running behind schedule.

HEY JO was out of position at the start. Driver Kristy Grant was subsequently fined the sum of $50 under AR 162(1)(h) for failing to come up into position. In arriving at penalty, stewards took into account Miss Grant’s recent record under this rule.

WITCH MASTER and PLAYSTATIONKING were both out of position at the start. Drivers Justin Campbell and Nicholas Brockman were both reprimanded under AR 162(1)(h) for failing to come into position at the start.

DEE BEE BOBBY tired over the concluding stages.

A post-race swab sample was taken from COCCINELLA, the winner of the event.

RACE 3 – LACHLAN HOTEL OUSE PACE DIVISION ONE – 2090 METRES

Racing down the back straight on the final occasion Ian McMahon (ONE MANS PASS) successfully jostled Christian Salter (DO IT FOR DAVE) for a position in the three wide line

Stewards reminded driver Paul Ashwood (BLACKJACKHANOVER) of his obligations of his whip use over the concluding stages.

RACE 4 – KEN BECK PACE – 2090 METRES

Racing down the back straight on the final occasion, Nicholas Brockman (THE BADLANDS) successfully jostled Rodney Ashwood (NITRO BLUE) for a position in the three wide line

THE BADLANDS broke in the home straight on the final occasion. Connections have been advised that this gelding has been placed on its last chance to race truly.

Stewards inquired at approximately the 200 metres where NITRO BLUE was checked and subsequently broke. After taking evidence off drivers Nicholas Brockman (THE BADLANDS) and Rodney Ashwood (NITRO BLUE) and viewing the official patrol films, stewards were satisfied that Nicholas Brockman (THE BADLANDS) who was racing in a three wide position behind ALPINION (Natalie Emery) had shifted marginally outwards. Stewards were of the opinion that this had occurred when Adrian Collins (SUTTER MAN) who was trailing the leader, shifted wider on the track to obtain a clear run resulting in Ricky Duggan (TALES OF THE CITY NZ) and Natalie Emery (ALPINION) who were both to the outside of SUTTER MAN shifting marginally wider on the track. At the same time, NITRO BLUE (Rodney Ashwood) who was tiring also commenced to hang in and as a result made contact with the outside sulky wheel of THE BADLANDS. As stewards could not be satisfied that one driver was not solely responsible for the incident, stewards took no further action against any horse or driver.

COMEON HOWZAT NZ pulled hard throughout the event.

ORIGIN BILLY tired over the concluding stages.

COMEON HOWZAT NZ (Samantha Gangell) who was racing three back on the pegs entering the home straight wasable to obtain an inside run when XBOLT who was leading the event shifted out under pressure.

WATCH THIS SPOT NZ has been placed back inside the mobile barrier draw.

RACE 5 – OFFICE NATIONAL PACE – 2090 METRES

JARUZELSKI LEIS hung in momentarily when racing into the back straight on the first occasion.

MELPARK MAESTRO raced rough for a short period when racing into the back straight on the first occasion.

PALMISANO pulled hard throughout the event.

MELPARK MAESTRO was held up for clear racing room when racing around the home turn.

Racing around the home turn Mark Yole (MY GREEK MATE) and Kristy Grant (HAPPY SCHNAPPS) jostled for a brief period and as a result MY GREEK MATE sustained a flat tyre.

Driver Mark Yole (MY GREEK MATE) was found guilty of a charge under AR 163(1)(a) for causing interference in that when racing around the home turn he elected to shift wider on the track to obtain a clear run and as a result carried HAPPY SCHNAPPS (Kristy Grant) wider who in turn contacted the sulky of FRANCO SHEFFIELD NZ (Ricky Duggan). HAPPY SCHNAPPS and FRANCO SHEFFIELD NZ then subsequently locked wheels for a brief distance. In arriving at this penalty, stewards took into account Mr Yole’s not guilty plea, his good record under this rule over the past 12 months, the extent of the interference and that FRANCO SHEFFIELD NZ was inclined to hang in prior to the incident occurring. Mr Yole’s drivers licence was suspended from midnight 31/1/16 and will expire midnight 7/2/16.

RACE 6 – UBET PACE – 2090 METRES

Stewards approved a change of tactics on VANDE VELDE after trainer Christian Salter advised stewards that it was his intention for driver Rohan Hiller to attempt to lead and hold the front circumstances permitting. Stewards made a public announcement to this effect at the track and also published the change of tactics on social media.

VANDE VELDE was inclined to hang in in the early part of the score up.

BARYNYA was inclined to hang in when racing off the back straight on the first occasion.

Racing out of the home straight after receiving the bell PHILTRA PHELLA hung out and contacted the sulky of CENTONIC and subsequently broke. Connections have been advised that this gelding has been placed on its last chance to race truly.

Racing into the home straight on the final occasion BARYNYA hung in under pressure and as a result contacted the outside sulky wheel of ALL I CAN BE resulting in this gelding sustaining a flat tyre.

Driver Ian McMahon (BARYNYA) was reprimanded under AR163(3) for half carting in that he trailed the outside sulky wheel of PHILTRA PHELLA when racing down the back straight on the first occasion for an extended period.

RACE 7 – CROWN IN PONTVILLE PACE – 2090 METRES

RESON TO GRIN was fractious in the score up.

SOHO SHANGHAI NZ hung in the score up and was subsequently out of position at the start. Connections have been advised that this colt will continue to be drawn right outside the draw in future mobile start events.

KOOL MINTZ broke at approximately the 500 meters. Connections have been advised that this mare have been placed on its last chance to race truly.

STREETSIDE CLASSIC was held up for clear racing room over the concluding stages.

Craig Sweeny (REASON TO GRIN) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 162(1)(y) for failing to adhere to the sectional time requirements of this event. Mr Sweeny was subsequently fined the sum of $100.00

RACE 8 – SMITHAWARDS PACE DIVISION TWO – 2090 METRES

FLYLIKA HAWK was a late scratching at 11.00am after trainer Mr Adrian Duggan advised stewards that this gelding was suffering from a stone bruise. Connection have been advised that FLYLIKA HAWK has been stood down from racing for a period of 28 days.

OUTLAW NZ hung out after the start, momentarily tightening SCRUFFY JAKE.

GENERAL:

TPC 10/2/16 Race 7 – Driver Christian Salter (SWEET KISSES) was queried into the tactics adopted on this gelding in the event in particular why he elected to switch to the leaders back on the peg line at the beginning of the event when the position outside the leader was available. Mr Salter stated that that after having a discussion with the trainer Mr N Ford in relation to the future potential of the mare and also that the mare hits its knees, Mr Salter stated that he elected to switch to the inside and sit behind the leader of the event ODINS CALL GIRL in an attempt to obtain an easier run. After viewing the official patrol films and considering the evidence of Mr Salter, stewards were of the opinion that the decision to switch to the peg leg behind the leader at the start of the race was not unreasonable and accepted the explanation of Mr Salter and took no further action.
