2015 SCMS Awards Overview

The Supply Chain Management Summit (SCMS) and its Planning Committee strive to recognize professionals, corporations and institutions of higher-education for excellence in the supply chain management through a variety of annual awards. In order to recognize the industry’s very best and raise the profile of the industry, the Supply Chain Management Excellence Awards include the Supply Chain Leader of the Year Award, the Supply Chain of the Year Award and the Diamond Award for Industry Excellence in Supply Chain Education. The awardees are nominated by industry peers who are then narrowed down to a final list of candidates based on the award criteria. The prestigious lists of finalists are reviewed by the SCMS Planning Committee and the winner is announced during the summit event.

Award benefits include:

  • One complimentary registration to the 2015 Supply Chain Management Summit
  • Recognition at the 2015 SCMS in front of an audience of 250-plus attendees
  • Spotlights in SCMS marketing materials including promotional videos, emails, website and other collateral

Nominators are responsible for demonstrating that the nominee deserves this award and can provide supporting evidence by completing the nomination form. Self-nominations are welcome and accepted. Completed nomination forms must be received for the candidate no later than July 15, 2015.

Who Is Eligible

Any person may submit a nomination on behalf of another person or company for any award category. Nominees and nominators are not limited to U.S. persons or organizations – international submissions are accepted and encouraged. Multiple nominations are accepted. Self-nominations are also accepted and encouraged. The specific eligibility details for each award category are described further in this document.

Members of the Planning Committee are not eligible to as a nominee. As the Host Organizations, employees, faculty or staff of Banneker Industries or Bryant University are not eligible as nominees. Interns at Banneker Industries and Students at Bryant University are eligible as nominees.

Guidelines for a Good Nomination

Ultimately the selection of the award recipient is based on the accomplishments and impact of the individual and/or organization. However, since the process is driven initially from the information submitted by the nominator, please understand that the nomination document is a critical determinant in the entire process. Some of the general expectations:

  • The summary is limited to 500 words and at least one letter of recommendation (more letters will be accepted);
  • Every effort should be made to provide specific examples which attest to each of the criteria used in the evaluation;
  • Nominators should be very clear in terms of why the nominee should be recognized;
  • Letters of recommendation carry significant weight if, especially if they are definitive in the nominee’s support with clear examples to differentiate and the nominees are well respected in their profession.

How to Nominate

To nominate, follow the step-by-step instructions below:

  1. Read through each of the award categories and determine if you know an individual or organization that meets the eligibility requirements and would be a good candidate for consideration.
  2. Complete the nomination form in its entirety. Incomplete forms may be considered ineligible for assessment. Each nomination must be submitted on a separate form.
  3. (Optional) Gather any supporting documentation, such as testimonials, references, project descriptions, photographs and published articles that will strengthen your nomination. These should be collated into a single PDF document and emailed along with your nomination package.

  5. All nominations will be confirmed as being received via email within 48 hours of receipt. If you do not receive a confirmation then it means your nomination did not go through. If that happens, please send a separate email to .

Award Categories

#1 – Supply Chain/Logistics Leader of the Year Award

This award recognizes an individual that has demonstrated superior commitment, innovative strategic leadership and significant supply chain management/logistics contributions within the industry and/or organization. This award is to help showcase the talents of those professionals driving change in the industry.

Criteria for the award and attributes of an ideal recipient include:

−An active member in a professional supply chain, logistics or related organization (i.e. Institute of Supply Management, Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, Warehouse Education Research Council, APICS, International Warehouse Logistics Association, etc.);

−An innovator of new techniques, approaches or processes related to supply chain management and/or logistics;

−A leader that drives a team or a company towards continual improvement within the supply chain and supports their team’s innovative ideas;

−An individual that takes a collaborative approach to work with supply chain partners and peers.

#2 – Emerging Young Professional Leader Award

The Emerging Young Professional Leader Award recognizes up-and-coming leaders in the supply chain management/logistics field for their early and practical contributions to the industry. Nominees should be recognized as a rising star who has proven contributions to the discipline of supply chain management/logistics and one who possesses significant potential future impact to the field.

Criteria for the award and attributes of an ideal recipient include:

−An individual who is age 30 or under at the time of nomination deadline

−An active member in a professional supply chain, logistics or related organization (i.e. Institute of Supply Management, Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, Warehouse Education Research Council, APICS, International Warehouse Logistics Association, etc.);

−An individual who has a proven track record in leading teams and has been recognized by their peers as a role model for other aspiring supply chain professionals;

−An individual who has contributed in areas beyond their “normal job” to enhance the awareness and understanding of the profession;

−An individual that has great potential to impact the industry by developing new capabilities and being a thought leader who stands out among their peers.

#3 – Corporate Supply Chain of the Year Award

This award is presented to an organization that has used innovative supply chain management and logistics practices to advance their business and deliver a positive impact to their customers. In this organization, supply chain is not an afterthought, but rather a driving factor in the strategic planning process and tactical execution of the company’s day-to-day business activities. The Corporate Supply Chain of the Year award recognizes organizations that best exemplify the ideal for today's supply chain and serve as role models which can help other companies move closer to their supply chain goals.

Criteria for the award and attributes of an ideal recipient include:

−A for-profit or not-for-profit organization;

−The nominee can be a company whose primary business activities are directly related to the supply chain management/logistics field or can be a department, business unit or functional group within a company whose primary purpose is to related to supply chain management/logistics for their company;

−The organization should demonstrate they have a robust supply chain team that is collaborative in their approach to supply chain partnerships and has a voice in the company’s strategy and direction that are aligned with the organizational goals;

−The nominee should have produced measurable gains in ROI, whether in warehouse, transportation, procurement sourcing or any other category in the end-to-end supply chain.

#4 – Diamond Award for Industry Excellence in Supply Chain Education

This award recognizes an organization that demonstrates superior commitment to supply chain education.

Criteria for the award and attributes of an ideal recipient include:

  • A for-profit or not-for-profit organization;
  • An organization who promotes supply chain education within and outside of their organization;
  • An organization that delivers supply chain educational programs directed at employees, students and/or other companies;
  • An organization who proactively engages with students at their university campus (i.e. participating in career fairs) and/or at their organizations (i.e. hosting student tours);
  • An organization whose leadership has demonstrated a commitment to recruiting students for supply chain internships and training opportunities;
