Funding Boost for East Grinstead Town Football Club

East Grinstead Town Football Club is celebrating the news that it has received a £35,000.00 funding boost from SITA Trust for their project "Facility Upgrade to comply with FA National Ground Grading criteria".

The Club's First Team are currently fourth in Division One of the Sussex County League. Aspirations of progressing further require significant upgrade to its current facilities. In order to potentially gain promotion at the end of the season, the club will need to meet FA National Ground Grading Category E Criteria during the 2013/14 season. This requires: increasing covered seated capacity by 50; increasing covered standing capacity by 50; providing two spectator entrances controlled by turnstiles, suitably housed and lit with adequate protection and security for the operator; improving spectator egress from the ground including disabled; providing suitable emergency vehicle access into the ground. The project will help secure the club's future with modern, clean, functional facilities reflecting a well-run amateur football club. It will also encourage spectators to attend matches and local youth to take part in sporting activities which could inspire them to play for their local team with potential to play competitive football. In addition, the improved facilities will help the club in continuing to stage local community events such as the town’s annual fireworks display and there will be potential for other community groups to enjoy the improved facilities. SITA Trust is the majority funder of this £43,550 project.

East Grinstead Town FC Chairman, Richard Tramontin said: “We are an amateur club run entirely by volunteers and are extremely grateful for the support given by SITA Trust towards our programme of continual improvements to provide football in the community”.

Marek Gordon CEO and Chairman of SITA Trust added “We are delighted to have been able to support this project through the Landfill Communities Fund. This important source of funding has been available since 1997 and has provided such worthy projects with more than £1.2 billion.”

Landfill Tax and the Landfill Communities Fund

SITA Trust receives its funding through HM Government’s Landfill Communities Fund. Funding is donated by SITA UK, one of the nation’s leading recycling and resource management companies.

Any rubbish that is thrown away and cannot be reused ends up in a landfill site. Operators of landfill sites collect tax on each tonne of landfill for HM Treasury. The purpose of this tax is to make it more expensive to put waste into landfill, in turn encouraging us to reduce our waste and recycle more.

A small proportion of this tax can be used to support a wide range of environmental projects near landfill sites, through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF). Through the LCF over £1 billion has been invested in UK projects. SITA Trust is part of the LCF, which is regulated on behalf of HM Government’s Revenue & Customs by ENTRUST.
