AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND HONOR REVEREND ROBERT B. COOPER, SR., ELDER OF THE FLORENCEDILLON DISTRICT OF THE SEVENTH EPISCOPAL DISTRICT OF THE AFRICAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER FORTYFIVE YEARS OF DEVOTED SERVICE, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is altogether fitting and proper that the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina should pause in their deliberations to congratulateReverend Robert B. Cooper, Sr., as he retires from meaningful service as elder of the FlorenceDillon District of the Seventh Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church; and

Whereas, born in Lake City, heattended Carver High School in Lake City and earned a bachelor of science degree and a bachelor of theology degree from Morris College; and

Whereas, in the proud tradition of the sons of the Palmetto State, Elder Cooper served his country with distinction in the United States Army, andhe taught in the public schools of Florence and Sumter counties, for which he received numerous commendations and honors; and

Whereas, during his fortyfive years of ministry, Reverend Cooper has served to oversee and guide the twentynine pastors and their churches in the FlorenceDillon District of the AME Church; and

Whereas, he served as a former member of the board of trustees of Marion County School District Two, finance committee member and vice chairman of the board of trustees for Allen University, chairman of the FlorenceMarionDillon County Community Action Agency, guardian ad litem, and member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.; and

Whereas, a faithful member of Greater St. James AME Church in Lake City, Reverend Cooper is the proud father of two fine children, Robert B. Cooper, Jr., and Maggie Cooper; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representativesappreciate the years of dedication that Elder Cooper has devoted to the FlorenceDillon District and wish him many years of enjoyment in his wellearned retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate and honor Reverend Robert B. Cooper, Sr., elder of the FlorenceDillon District of the Seventh Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, upon the occasion of his retirement after fortyfive years of devoted service, and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Reverend Robert B. Cooper, Sr.
