AHOUSE RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE FRANCES BASS GINSBERG OF ORANGEBURG COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER NINETIETH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER MANY YEARS OF CONTINUED HEALTH AND HAPPINESS UPON THIS JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Frances Bass Ginsberg of Orangeburg County celebrated her ninetieth birthday on April 15, 2015; and
Whereas, born on April 15, 1925, in the early part of the twentieth century, she has witnessed many remarkable social changes, technological advancements, and international developments that have spanned the globe from that time into the second decade of the twentyfirst century; and
Whereas, Frances Bass, the daughter of Esther Cohen Bass and Nathan Bass, was reared in North, South Carolina, where her parents owned and operated the Bass Mercantile Company; and
Whereas, one of seven children, she married her beloved husband, Arthur Ginsberg of Bishopville, in 1949, and together they reared three fine daughters: Nancy Thornton of Camden; Beverly Lande of Dallas, Texas; and Sally Waters of Gulfport, Florida; and
Whereas, Frances and Arthur Ginsberg ran Ginsberg’s Ladies Shop together until his death in 1988. Soon after, her oldest daughter, Nancy, returned home to help run the store, which remained a Main Street staple for another twenty years, closing in 2008; and
Whereas, even though she worked an average of fifty hours a week, she was never too busy to enjoy square dancing with her husband or to serve as a Girl Scout leader for her daughters, a classroom mother, a house mother for beach parties, or a chaperone for band trips; and
Whereas, dedicated to her community, she was a faithful member of Hadassah at Temple Sinai in Sumter and was active with the Bishopville Chamber of Commerce, the Lee County Business Association, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was honored for her enterprise on behalf of her community as Bishopville Business Person of the Year in 2005 at the age of eighty; and
Whereas, Mr. and Mrs. Ginsberg’s children blessed them with three adoring grandsons and five greatgrandchildren; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to honor this daughter of South Carolina at the celebration of her ninetieth birthday and join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,
