A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE 2013 CLEMSON UNIVERSITY “TIGERS” FOOTBALL TEAM AND THEIR HEAD COACH DABO SWINNEY FOR ITS WIN AT THE 2014 ORANGE BOWL AND ON AN OUTSTANDING 2013 FOOTBALL SEASON.
Whereas, the Clemson University football team, under the leadership of Head Coach Dabo Swinney, topped off a winning season with a thrilling victory over Ohio State in the Orange Bowl; and
Whereas, the Clemson Tigers began the season ranked number eight in the AP Poll, and after defeating the University of Georgia 3835, the Tigers rose as high as number three in the poll; and
Whereas, although the Ohio State Buckeyes were favored to win the Orange Bowl by three points the Tigers defeated them 4035; and
Whereas, the Tigers, through their win at the Orange Bowl ended their season ranked number eight and Ohio State number twelve in the AP Poll; and
Whereas, quarterback Tajh Boyd had a recordsetting night, throwing for 378 yards and five touchdowns; and
Whereas, wide receiver Sammy Watkins also had a recordsetting game with sixteen catches for 227 yards and two touchdowns; and
Whereas, through his performance, Watkins became Clemson’s career receptions leader and set an Orange Bowl record for yardage; and
Whereas, Clemson’s victory over Ohio State was the university’s first Bowl Championship Series bowl victory; and
Whereas, the Tigers had 576 total yards, 198 of which were rushing yards, which is the most the Buckeyes’ defense has allowed this season; and
Whereas, Clemson University tight end Stanton Steckinger caught the winning touchdown with six minutes and sixteen seconds left in the game, clinching the victory for the Tigers. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate recognize and congratulate the 2013 Clemson University “Tigers” football team and their head coach Dabo Swinney for its win at the 2014 Orange Bowl and on an outstanding 2013 season.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach Dabo Swinney.
