AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR VERONICA MILLER, COORDINATOR OF KEEP BEAUFORT COUNTY BEAUTIFUL, UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AFTER SIXTEEN YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE, AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina are pleased to learn thatVeronica Millerwill begin a welldeserved retirement after almost thirty years of significant contributions to Beaufort County; and

Whereas, born in 1946 in Brooklyn, New York, she earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Limestone College in 1994. After graduation, she served the Beaufort/Jasper Water Authority, and since 1997, she has servedas the coordinator of Keep Beaufort County Beautiful; and

Whereas, throughout Mrs. Miller’s tenure, the county has maintained the Keep America BeautifulGood Standing Status as a result of implementing such initiatives as the county’s Annual Great American Cleanup program, Grinding of the Greens annual event at locations throughout Beaufort County, and AdoptaBoatLanding program; and

Whereas, under her leadership, eightyfive AdoptAHighway participating groups with six hundred ninetynine volunteers were encouraged to make bimonthly cleanups, which resulted in better coverage throughout the county and the removal of ninetysix thousand pounds of litter along three hundred ten miles of highway; and

Whereas, as part of Keep Beaufort County Beautiful educationalefforts, she presented over one hundred educational programs at county schools and camps annually, introduced an awardwinning antilitter program in Beaufort County Schools, and regularly presented to Rotaries and Adopt-A-Highway groups; and

Whereas, Mrs. Miller worked in coordination with the South Carolina Litter Control Association, by attendingthe association’sannual conferences to support litterreduction efforts and regularly working with litter officers in the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office to address litter and illegal dumping issues throughout the county; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Department of Transportation honored her with a 10 Year AdoptAHighway Service Award, and she received the Keep America BeautifulPresidents Circle Award for Excellenceeach year since the award was instituted in 2002 and the Keep South Carolina Beautiful Affiliate Award since it began in 2009; and

Whereas, a member of the Lowcountry Chapter of the Limestone College Alumni Association and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, she serves on the executive board of the Beaufort branch of the American Association of University Women and as the director on the board of directors for ArtWorks; and

Whereas, together with her beloved husband of over twentyfive years, Steven Miller, she resides on St. Helena Island, and they plan to spend many happy hours of retirement together; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is grateful for the years of dedication that Veronica Miller has devoted to Beaufort County, and the members wish her many years of enjoyment in her wellearned retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Veronica Miller, coordinator of Keep Beaufort County Beautiful, upon the occasion of her retirement after sixteen years of outstanding service, and wish her continued success and happiness in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Veronica Miller.
