Joliet Central 2018Football Season Cheerleading Tryouts

Season runs from June through October

Rules:

Practices, camps, events, and games are Mandatory.

Cheerleading is a team sport and when you are not at practice your entire stunt group suffers…we have a short amount of time to prepare for basketball season, pre-game events and all homecoming festivities and attendance is important!!! Therefore, the only excused absences are having a doctor’s note, one family vacation, or a funeral/wake.
If you miss a practice unexcused, you will be benched during the next game. If you miss a game, you will be benched from one of the homecoming festivities including pep assembly and/or parade. Three unexcused absences will result in removal from the team.

Unexcused Absences Include-but are not limited to

  • Driver’s Ed(We highly encourage you to take Driver’s Ed during the summer).
  • Another sport/program or club
  • Missing school without a doctors note
  • More than one vacation
  • Tumbling
  • Work/Interviews

Tardiness is not acceptable! Leave early, be on time! You will be benched if you can’t be on time. If you need a ride, tell your coach and we will arrange a ride for you. Or, be proactive and ask your team mates for a ride prior to practice or a game.

There will be three football cheerleading teams: Freshman tryouts will be in August—so if you are a freshman and you do not make JV/Varsity please come back!

  • A JV team consisting of 14-20 freshmen, sophomores, and juniors.
  • A Varsity team of 16-20 members.

Practices (During Summer):

Varsity and JV will practice 2 days a week during the summer. Varsity will have practices on Tuesday, and Thursday, and Mondays if needed during the school year. JV will practice Tuesday and Thursday during the school year. Summerpractices will be at 1:30pm-4:00pm in the Fieldhouse. Varsity flyers will need to arrive at 12:00 pm to stretch with Coach Reeder. There are times when practices may be longer or at a different time, but you will know in advance. IT WILL BE EXPECTED THAT YOU ARRIVE 15 MINUTES PRIOR TO PRACTICE TO ROLL OUT MATS.

Tumbling Class: Team tumbling will take place at GymTyme Illinois. This will be an 8-10 week session in May. TEAM tumbling is important because it allows the team to bond together. We ask that you participate in these scheduled sessions. You may get extra tumbling practice at your regular gym.

Practices:

Both teams will practice Tuesday and Thursday afternoons 1:30-4:00 (summer), Varsity will have some Monday practices if needed during the school year. Varsity will do weight lifting/conditioning from 4-5 pm during the summer. Varsity and JV will also practice Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:30-6:00pm (school year) in the Fieldhouse.Varsity will have Football games on Friday evenings (home and away games) and some home games on Saturday afternoons. JV’s games will be on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday mornings depending on the schedule.

We will attend Carthage College’s NCA Camp! This is a VERY elite camp that helps out tremendously with our skills and prepares us for the upcoming competitive season!

Mandatory Camp Dates:

The cheerleading program will be going to NCA camp at Carthage College on July 9-11th. Payment will need to be turned in before leaving for camp. This will be mandatory for each cheerleader.

PLEASE DO NOT SCHEDULE A VACATION DURING CAMP WEEK! ALL ATHLETES THAT MAKE THE TEAM MUST ATTEND THE CAMP TO BE READY FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON!

Varsity Homecoming Choreography will be held at the end of July. There will be an extended practice schedule for these days. Everyone MUST ATTEND SO YOU CAN LEARN YOUR CHOREOGRAPHY SPOT.

*****We understand this is a large commitment, so please DO NOT TRYOUT IF YOU WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR ALL OF THE ABOVE DATES. PLEASE DO NOT TRYOUT AND TAKE SOMEONE ELSE’ S SPOT IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO COMMIT TO COMING EVERYDAY!*****

TRYOUT INFORMATION

  • It is highly recommended that stunt groups are figured outprior to tryouts and that prospective cheerleaders attend open gym at GymTyme Illinois to get extra practice time on tumbling and stunting. To find out times for open gym, please look at the GymTyme Illinois website for their open gym times and prices. Veteran cheerleaders will be asked to stunt on the first day of tryouts so prior preparation is needed.
  • To make JV you need to be working on a flip flop and/or execute a flip flop. To make Varsity you need to attempt or have a standing back tuck. If you execute a tumbling skill at tryouts, it will be expected that you perform the skill throughout the season and then build upon your skills. We expect to see growth in your performance during the football season.
