Jockey Patrick Keane produced a certificate permitting him to ride today.

RACE 1 – GLENORCHY MAIDEN/CLASS 1 PLATE – SET WEIGHTS – 2100 METRES

On arrival at the racecourse Umlimo, which had become cast in the float en route to the track, was inspected by the Club’s veterinary surgeon who ruled the mare unfit to run. Acting on this Umlimo was withdrawn at 12.40 pm. As betting had not yet commenced no deductions were issued in respect to this scratching. Trainer Gary White was advised that a veterinary clearance is required prior to Umlimo racing again.

After passing the crossing near the 1700 metres, Am I There Yet shifted in slightly and crowded Credit Trader resulting in that gelding’s rider having to ease over the gelding’s heels.

In the home straight, Newstart and Flashy’s Girl displayed a tendency to lay in under pressure.

Anthony Darmanin, the rider of Barely a Secret which performed below market expectations, explained that when he attempted to improve into the race to trail Credit Trader, the mare failed to respond to his riding. Jockey Darmanin added that the mare felt normal in its action on pulling up.

RACE 2 – GOODWOOD 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – SET WEIGHTS – 1100 METRES

The announcement of correct weight was delayed when Jockey Brendon McCoull, the rider of the second placegetter Vigilante, requested to view the official photo of the finish and also the head on footage in the home straight. After viewing both films Jockey McCoull was satisfied and correct weight was declared.

On arrival at the barriers, Anthony Darmanin, the rider of Hamish, requested a veterinary examination of the gelding as in his view it felt short in its action. The gelding underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to run.

Shortly after the start, Mornington Lad shifted out and hampered Isn’t Life Strange.

Hamish was inclined to race greenly at approximately the 700 metres and as a result brushed with Gee Gees Showboy.

Geegees Soprano was inclined to lay in in the home straight.

Brendon McCoull, rider of Vigilante, will be reminded of his obligations when using the whip when riding his mounts out to the finish.

A post-race veterinary inspection of Hamish revealed no apparent abnormalities.

RACE 3 – GLENORCHY RSL 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE – SET WEIGHTS – 1200 METRES

Co-trainer Scott Brunton submitted a veterinary clearance declaring Foolish Games fit to race today.

The announcement of correct weight was delayed when Apprentice Georgie Catania the rider of LaceyAzz, (dead heat for second) requested to view the official photo of the finish. After viewing the photo Apprentice Catania was satisfied and correct weight was declared.

Khaki Warrior harmlessly dislodged Jockey Shuji Amano in the mounting yard and then after leaving the mounting yard Khaki Warrior again harmlessly dislodged its rider on two more occasions. Thegelding was then re-mounted by its rider and inspected at the barriers by the Club’s veterinary surgeon who passed Khaki Warrior fit to run. Trainer Mr Terence Evans was advised that a warning has been placed on Khaki Warrior due to its manners today.

Extravagant Eagle jumped away awkwardly.

Let It Be Known jumped away awkwardly before shifting in and bumping LaceyAzz resulting in that mare being hampered.

Khaki Warrior was slow to begin.

Approaching the 200 metres LaceyAzz was inconvenienced when Extravagant Eagle commenced to lay in. Extravagant Eagle continued to lay in for some distance.

For a short distance passing the 200 metres Foolish Games was unable to obtain a clear run.

Passing the 200 metres Elzevier hung in for some distance and proved difficult to ride.

Following a report from the Starter, Mr David Evans, Trainer Stuart Gandy was advised that Geegees Martini must complete a barrier trial to Stewards’ satisfaction before racing again due to its barrier manners today.

Apprentice Tyson Buck, the rider of Quest for Broadway which raced towards the rear of the field for the majority of the race and performed below expectations, explained that after being tightened during the early stages and racing back in the field, the mare failed to respond to his riding.

RACE 4 – GRAHAM FAMILY FUNERALS 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE – SET WEIGHTS – 1400 METRES

The announcement of correct weight was delayed when Apprentice Sigrid Carr and Trainer John Luttrell, the rider and trainer of the second placegetter Lady Spencer, requested to view the official photo of the finish. After viewing the photo both parties was satisfied and correct weight was declared.

Stormswift jumped away awkwardly and took Argentinian Storm in on to Clamouring which resulted in Cosmic Dane being tightened between that mare and Lady Spencer.

Shortly after the start, Unparalleled had to be restrained to avoid the heels of Hellova Street (PatrickKeane) which shifted in when not clear. Shortly after this, Hellova Street when shifting toward the rail tightened Lady Spencer resulting in that mare having to be restrained. After taking into account all the circumstances, Patrick Keane was reprimanded under AR 137(a) careless riding and notified that he must exercise more care when in similar circumstances in the future.

Stormshift shifted out making the 1200 metre turn and carried Coin Toss and Royal Classic wider on the track.

Upon jumping, Stallari shifted in bumping with Pop King.

Near the 400 metres, Stallari, when attempting to improve to the outside of Lady Spencer, made contact with Eastern Moon.

Stewards intend to inquire into Tyson Buck’s whip use prior to the 100 metres.

RACE 5 – DJ MOTORS CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1100 METRES

Trainer Jason Clifford submitted a veterinary clearance declaring Seven Mile King fit to race today.

Seven Mile King was slow to begin (1L).

Da Ponte jumped away awkwardly.

Sister Quest raced ungenerously when being steadied off the heels of Vinder approaching the 800 metres.

Passing the 800 metres, Vinder had to be restrained to avoid the heels of Spinning Jenny (BulentMuhcu(a)) which shifted in when not quite clear. After taking into account all the circumstances, BulentMuhcu was reprimanded under AR 137(a) careless riding and notified that he must exercise more care when in similar circumstances in the future.

During the middle stages of the race, Eastern Moon raced ungenerously.

RACE 6 – GRANADA & CARYLE HOTEL BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP – 1600 METRES

Veloce Cavallo and Esspressardo were slow into stride(1L).

Near the 400 metres, Veloce Cavallo shifted in and brushed the running rail.

Approaching the 1400 metres, Veloce Cavallo became unbalanced when tightened for room between Neil’s Gold and Esspressardo which shifted out slightly. During this incident Veloce Cavallo brushed the hindquarters of Neil’s Gold resulting in that gelding also becoming unbalanced.

Near the 1200 metres, Veloce Cavallo got its head up when racing tightly between Neil’s Gold and Esspressardo.

In the home straight, Sun Disk raced greenly.

A post-race veterinary inspection of Uboa failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

RACE 7 – ADRIANA TAYLOR MEMBER FOR ELWICK OPEN HANDICAP – 1000 METRES

On arrival at the course it was reported that Loaded Owners was showing signs of a haematoma in the vicinity of its right jugular vein. Jason Clifford trainer of the gelding was interviewed to ascertain whether it had been treated on race morning. Mr Clifford explained that he had injected Loaded Owners with vitamins on Saturday. Acting on this assurance stewards accepted his explanation, however they ordered that a swab samples be taken from the gelding.

Shortly after the start My Temptation was hampered when tightened for room by Little River Girl which shifted out.

Approaching the 800 metres Punctuate was inconvenienced when tightened for room by Snippetee Bee which shifted in away from Little River Girl.

Punctuate then got its head up for a short distance.

On the latter part of the home turn, Hold Onto Your Hat was held up when unable to obtain a run to the inside of Little River Girl where there was barely sufficient room. In the early part of the home straight, Hold Onto Your Hat was unable to obtain a clear run.

Over the concluding stages, Innocent Gamble was unable to obtain a run between Jay Bee’s Gee Gee and Punctuate which displayed a tendency to shift out when under pressure.

RACE 8 – GLENORCHY COMMUNITY FUND BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

Shortly after the start, Savvy Princess jumped away awkwardly bumping with Hired Gun and then knuckled.

Tap It In was slow to begin (1L).

Throughout the race Drummond displayed a tendency to hang out.

GENERAL

After taking evidence from Apprentice David Fisher it was found that he was unable to fulfil his riding engagements today due to being overweight. David Fisher was issued with a severe reprimand under the provision of AR 120(b) and notified that should he offend under this rule in future, more severe action may be taken.

Adjourned Inquiry from Devonport Racing Club – Sunday, 29 September 2013

Race 5 – J Boag and Son Maiden/Class 1 Plate – 1650 metres

Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the reasons for Mikayla’s Boy (G Challinger) having to be checked after passing the 200 metres. Evidence was taken from Apprentice Chantal Willis (Argentinian Storm), Trainer Leon Wells (Master of Chantal Wells) Jockey Matthew Gatt (Keep Racing), and Jockey Grant Challinger (Mikayla’s Boy). After hearing all the tendered evidence, Chantal Willis pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR 137(a), the particulars being that after passing the 200 metres, she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Keep Racing resulting in that gelding being taken in on to Mikayla’s Boy which had to be checked. After taking into account submissions on penalty and as the Stewards assessed the carelessness to be of a low level and the interference to be of a mid level, Miss Willis’ licence to ride in races was suspended for one race meeting to commence at midnight on Sunday 13 October 2013.

Acting on a report from Track Steward Dean Crowden which related to Trainer Gareth Horner not wearing a life jacket when swimming horses at the Spreyton Training facility, Stewards issued a fine of $50 to Gareth Horner in breach of LR 25.9. Mr Horner was given a direction that he must wear a life jacket when swimming horses at the Spreyton facility.
