Comments/Explanations

Stewards accepted the explanation of Trainer L Gaffney for the late notification of rider for Mum And I in Race 3 today.

Apprentice T Buck notified Stewards that he was indisposed and unable to attend today’s meeting. Apprentice Buck was advised that he must submit a certificate of attendance for treatment in relation to his condition today.

Trainer J Blacker was fined $50 under LR 13.3 for the late notification of rider for Viva La Witch in Race 5 today.

RACE 1 – DANNEBROG CAFÉ BAR AND GRILL 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE (1) – 1150 METRES

Magestic Impulse jumped away awkwardly.

Danestone was slow to begin (1L).

Gold Adonna which had drawn wide was restrained shortly after the start.

Passing the 700 metres Danestone got its head up and raced awkwardly for a short distance.

On the latter part of the home turn Sheza Fatty Boomba was held up for a short distance.

Subsequent to the race it was reported that Magestic Impulse had sustained a laceration under the jaw which had occurred in the stabling area. The mare was examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to it leaving the course.

General Gee Gee lost an off hind plate during the event.

RACE 2 – PEDRO’S RESTAURANT 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE (2) – 1150 METRES

Yassy Nishitani rider of Goodtime Story was harmlessly dislodged in the mounting yard prior to the race.

Goodtime Story stood flat footed and lost considerable ground (3L). Trainer V Rhind was advised that a warning has been placed on the mare’s racing manners.

Approaching the 400 metres Beryl Bee which displayed a tendency to lay out brushed Royal Bluff who made slight contact with Portavik Playtime.

Passing the 300 metres Goodtime Story was inconvenienced when having to be restrained off the heels of Yackety Sax which shifted in.

In the home straight Sister Ignatius which was having her first start hung in when under pressure.

Approaching the 100 metres Goodtime Story raced awkwardly.

Brendon McCoull rider of Portavik Playtime which performed below expectations explained that the mare failed to respond to his riding from the 600 metres and after entering the home straight it quickly shortened its stride which resulted in him easing it down at that point. He further added that while the mare did not feel amiss in her action he elected to ease down due to the manner in which it commenced to weaken. Brendon McCoull added that he suggested to Mark Ganderton trainer of the mare that it may be better suited ridden off the pace. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

Patrick Keane rider of Ladercrombie which after racing handy commenced to give ground from the 400 metres explained that the gelding was making a respiratory noise. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 3 – HYGAIN 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE – 1350 METRES

Set Value was slightly slow to begin.

Credit Trader raced wide throughout and displayed a tendency to lay in when under pressure in the home straight.

Near the 400 metres Credit Trader was inconvenienced when avoiding the heels of Boxercise which was taken out slightly by Sonetto.

David Pires rider of Neconni Girl accidentally dropped his whip when attempting to turn his whip forward near the 200 metres.

RACE 4 – VEOLIA ENVIRONMENTAL MAIDEN/CLASS 1 PLATE – 1650 METRES

Overproof raced wide throughout.

Rounding the home turn Geegees Hawkeye shifted out and bumped with Cerise Sauvage.

In the home straight Cerise Sauvage displayed a tendency to lay in.

Approaching the winning post Military Boy was tightened for room when taken out onto Overproof by Gee Gee Miss Bee which shifted out slightly.

David Fisher rider of Our Clangalang which performed below expectations explained that the mare felt flat during the run and failed to respond to his riding from the 600 metres.

RACE 5 – J BOAG & SON CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1150 METRES

When being placed in the barriers Symbol Of Freedom contacted its shoulder. The gelding was passed fit to run following a veterinary examination behind the barriers.

On jumping away Inxeeblack shifted out and took Let’s Go Ernie out onto Symbol Of Freedom which was checked.

Glisson was slow to begin (2L).

Shortly after the start Keukenhof which was drawn wide was restrained toward the rear of the field.

Near the 1000 metres Viva La Witch was restrained to avoid the heels of Sister Quest (David Fisher) which shifted in when not quite clear. David Fisher will be notified to exercise more care when in similar circumstances.

Shortly after this Viva La Witch was checked when tightened for room by Deceitful Cove (Ismail Toker) which after getting its head in the air and racing ungenerously, then shifted ground inwards. After taking into account the racing manners of Deceitful Cove, Stewards did not proceed with a charge against Ismail Toker but severely reprimanded him under AR 137(a) careless riding and further notified him that he would be expected to straighten his mounts far sooner than he did on this occasion.

Shortly after this, Viva La Witch was checked when tightened for room by Ourmaher which, when over racing, shifted out to avoid the heels of Sister Quest when that mare eased the pace after obtaining the lead. When Ourmaher shifted out Let’s Go Ernie was checked and Kentucky Tea which was following that gelding also had to be checked.

Ourmaher then continued to over-race and approaching the 600 metres and again shifted out to avoid the heels of Darchill resulting in Deceitful Cove being taken out onto Inxeeblack and also inconveniencing Symbol Of Freedom. Connections were advised that a warning has been placed on the racing manners of Ourmaher.

Symbol Of Freedom raced wide throughout.

On the latter part of the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight Kentucky Tea had some difficulty obtaining a clear run.

Beer Belly layed in in the early part of the home straight.

David Fisher rider of Sister Quest pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 145 in that he weighed in 1 kilo over the allotted weight and was subsequently fined $100.

Patrick Keane rider of Symbol Of Freedom which performed below expectations explained that the gelding failed to run on after racing wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 6 – SIMONS DESIGN CENTRE CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1150 METRES

Yasir was declared a late scratching at 8.20 am by order of Stewards when co-trainer D Horner (Snr) reported that the horse had become cast in his box and in his opinion would be unfit to start. Co trainer Gareth Horner was advised that he must submit a veterinary certificate prior to Yasir racing again.

Shortly after the start Sh’Bourne Spirit was checked when tightened for room between The Producer and Vivre La Claire which shifted out.

David Pires rider of Cuprona Road explained that the gelding got back during the early stages of the race due to the pace and then ran on fairly in the home straight. David Pires further added that in his view the gelding would be better suited over a longer journey.

RACE 7 – TAPETA FOOTINGS BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP– 1350 METRES

Carnegie Flyer raced wide throughout.

In the home straight Testa Gee Gee laid in when under pressure.

Destiny’s Girl laid in in the home straight.

David Pires rider of Regio which performed below expectations explained that the gelding did not respond to his riding from the 500 metres and in his view may be better suited over more ground.

Georgie Catania rider of Destiny’s Girl was reminded of her obligations when using the whip when her mounts are out of contention.

Sigrid Carr rider of Testa Gee Gee was reminded of her obligations in relation to excessive whip use.

A post-race veterinary examination of Destiny’s Girl revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 8 – SPORTSBET.COM.AU PROTEST PAYOUT BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP – 1000 METRES

After being placed in the barriers Merits Respect became restless and reared on two occasions. A warning will continue to be placed against the mare’s barrier manners.

Merits Respect jumped away awkwardly and hampered Strike The Tiger.

From The Bronx knuckled on jumping away.

Unoaked raced wide throughout.

Passing the 600 metres Molvivre improved to the inside of Fashion Label which when racing ungenerously got its head up after being restrained off the heels of From The Bronx resulting in it shifting in slightly which resulted in Molvivre clipping its heels. After taking into account all the circumstances no action was taken other than to notify all riders involved to exercise more care when in similar circumstances in future.

Rounding the home turn Strike The Tiger was held up for a clear run.

Approaching the 100 metres Strike The Tiger shifted in to obtain a run to the inside of Merits Respect and was then held up when unable to obtain a clear run between that mare and Little River Girl.

Approaching the winning post Merits Respect was inconvenienced when Strike The Tiger shifted out to avoid the heels of Little River Girl which also shifted out slightly.

Brendon McCoull rider of Bionic Star which was eased down in the home straight stated that the gelding began well and raced well within itself early, however from the 600 metres when it commenced to give ground he felt that it was amiss in its action behind. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding was lame in the off hind leg. Trainer Barry Campbell was advised that he must submit a veterinary certificate prior to Bionic Star racing again.

RACE 9 – SPORTSBET.COM.AU TOP TOTE PLUS BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP – 1650 METRES

On jumping away Colonial Gold was tightened for room between Aslanyon and Cricketer (NZ) when both horses shifted in slightly.

Gee Gee’s Boss over-raced in the early stages.

Approaching the 600 metres Ben Annalou was taken out slightly by Wallis and was then checked when racing between Aslanyon and Tree Bandit which shifted in slightly.

Colonial Gold raced wide throughout and also displayed a tendency to hang out for the majority of the race.

Rounding the home turn Colonial Gold hung out and made the turn awkwardly.
