Summer is generally a more relaxed time of year. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in Shabbat services in a different way during this season. Throughout July and August we open service-leading to our community, and encourage members to take advantage of this opportunity. You may be interested in participating by reading from the Torah, leading a service, facilitating a discussion of the weekly Torah portion, sponsoring an oneg, reading a D’var Torah, or leading songs.
Clergy support is available at all times. Even if you have not led services before, there are plenty of resources for you! This year summer Lay-led services will be held from July 1st through August 20th. Please contact Amy Goldstein at AmeShine @ aol.com to sign up or for additional information.
Leader responsibilities:
· Service Leader: Guide the congregation in prayer throughout the service
· Song Leader: Lead the congregation in the singing and chanting of prayers in
conjunction with the Service Leader
· D’var Torah: Discuss the week’s Torah portion (Parsha) on Shabbat evening
· Torah Reader: Read or chant a selection of the week’s Parsha on Shabbat morning
· Discussion Leader: Facilitate an open discussion on the week’s Parsha on Shabbat morning
· Oneg: Financially sponsor a Friday evening Oneg Shabbat nosh, shop for snacks, and/or help set up/clear the room
Please note: Participants are welcome to have more than one responsibility at each service. Instructional help and support will be available at any time from both clergy members and other lay leaders. Please do not hesitate to ask!
Thank you so much for your participation.
