ACONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE GREAT FALLS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TEAM FOR A SUCCESSFUL SEASON AND TO COMMEND ITS OUTSTANDING PLAYERS AND COACH FOR CAPTURING THE 2012 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, playing like a welloiled machine, the Great Falls High School basketball team defeated Johnsonville7961 to win the ClassA State Championship, held at Greenville’s Colonial Life Arena on Saturday, March 3, 2012; and

Whereas, to the cheers of delighted fans, Great Falls rolled through the tournament. As the Red Devils accepted their trophy, supporters began considering the necessity of building a new shelf to hold the team’s impressive array of awards; and

Whereas, over the championship season, the Great Falls team had grown increasingly more aware of how to put their talents to use and how to forge winning strategies with a marked determination; and

Whereas, the Red Devils put their agility, speed, and perseverance to the test as they ended their season with a record of 281; and

Whereas, adding further glitter to an already scintillating season, seniorXavier Holmes was named theHerald AllArea Boys Player of the Year, Carolinas Classic All Star, SCBCA CoClass A Player of the Year, and Region 3A Player of the Year; and

Whereas, drawing on his own athletic ability and leadership skills, Coach John Smith led the Red Devils to their tenthoverall statechampionship (eight of them under his tutelage), setting a state record for total statetitle victories; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly take great pleasure in recognizing the young athletes of the Great Falls High School basketball team for their fine example both on and off the court and anticipate hearing of their continued successes in the years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Great Falls High School basketball team for a successful season and commend its outstanding players and coach for capturing the 2012 Class A State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Corey Murphy and Coach John Smith of Great Falls High School.
