Dear Parents/Caregivers,

Yet another year is flying by and already we have reached the final term of the year. For those of you who have students moving from the Kauri team into the Kahikatea team next year, we wanted to make sure you were aware that there will be a camp at the end of term one 2018.

Next year we will visit Bridge Valley Camp in Nelson from Monday 9th April to Friday 13th April. We expect the camp to cost approximately $350.00 per student. We will of course be encouraging fundraising from the beginning of the year. You are also welcome to set up an automatic payment with the office to start paying this off in advance if that makes budgeting easier.

As always we will need parent help to make this camp possible, however, please do not start emailing your offers of help just yet. Next year we will be sending home more information about the camp, along with a letter asking for volunteers. This letter will include the criteria for selecting our helpers. Camp can be a physically and mentally demanding week with long days. However, it is also a lot of fun, so please do think carefully about whether you might like to join us. We would also like to forewarn you that in order to satisfy health and safety guidelines, we are now required to have our parents police vetted. Please do not be offended when we ask for permission to do so.

Another big change for students coming into the senior team is the high use of digital technology in our learning program. Many students have chosen to purchase their own device, although we do have laptops and desktop computers available if this is not an option for your family. If you are considering purchasing a device for 2018, we strongly recommend Chromebooks. These are small, light and easy for students to transport. They are designed to work with the range of online tools that we utilize for our learning, and because they do not need lots of software upgrades, they maintain their operating speed for longer than other laptops. Please DO NOT purchase tablets (for example iPads) to send to school. The school has iPads available for students to be creative with, however, these are not as suitable for the day to day learning that we use devices for. If you have any questions regarding this, please feel free to email Sally using the email address below.

Thank you for your support. We are already looking forward to working with you and your children next year.
