Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that the Wilson Hall baseball team wonthe 2011 South Carolina Independent School Association Class AAA State Championship; and
Whereas, to the delight of their fans and the disappointment of their opponents, the Wilson Hall Barons dominated the first two games of the series against the Northwood Academy Chargers, 95 in the first game and 91 in the second, to capture the best two out of three series; and
Whereas, Baron southpaw Tyler Smith, who has signed to play baseball for Francis Marion, toed the rubber for the second game of the series and controlled the game with steely confidence, striking out eleven batters and walking only two. He also was 2 for 2 at bat, scoring two runs and batting in two runs; and
Whereas, Blake Graham, Baron catcher, was 3 for 4 at bat with two runs scored and two stolen bases; Zach Sherrill had two hits; Matthew Carnes scored two runs; Gibson Klapthor had three runs batted in; and Tyler Pannell batted in two runs on a single to left field in the top of the first inning; and
Whereas, in his fifth season as head coach, Chuck Sterling and his skilled coaching staff used their own athletic ability and training to forge a championship team through relentless practices and demanding drills; and
Whereas, in a sport that requires skill, strength, and strategy, the Baronsfinished their season with a 234 record, learning lessons that will prove invaluable both on and off the diamond; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is grateful for the pride and recognition that the members of the Wilson Hall baseball team have brought to their school and to their community through this accomplishment and looks to hear of their success in the future. Now, therefore,
