A RESOLUTION in honor of Kentucky's new Poet Laureate, Ms. Joy Bale Boone.

WHEREAS, from time to time a beautiful soul appears in our midst and graces us with an exquisite gift of art, the gift of poetry; and

WHEREAS, Joy Bale Boone, a native of Illinois, came to Kentucky sixty-one years ago, and from that time forward has worked tirelessly to bring the joy of poetry to the citizens of the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, for decades, Joy Bale Boone's passion for poetry has led her down many paths--as poet, advocate, and editor, beginning with the publishing of her first anthology of Kentucky poetry, which sold out in six weeks; and

WHEREAS, after the publishing of her second anthology of Kentucky poetry, Joy Bale Boone founded "Approaches", a literary magazine for contemporary Kentucky poetry; and

WHEREAS, for twelve years Ms. Boone served as the editor of "Approaches", later called the "Kentucky Poetry Review", and said of the publication after its close that it probably awakened a few minds, and perhaps led to the current proliferation of literary publications in Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, Boone's published works include the collections, "never less than love" (1972) and "The Storm's Eye: A Narrative in Verse Celebrating Cassius Marcellus Clay, Man of Freedom, 1810-1903" (1974); and

WHEREAS, Joy Bale Boone is an example to us all, exalting through her art the gift of life and the beauty and joy within it;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:
