Theatrical Arts Scholarship

A $1000.00 scholarship is available to be awarded to high school seniorsresiding in the City of Bowie who will be entering college in 2018.Students who agree to enroll in at least one class in theater arts or technical theater at an accredited institution of higher learning during the 2018-2019school year are eligible to apply. Applicants must demonstrate prior active involvement in theater arts through participation in school, professional, or community theatrical productions either on stage or behindthescenes. Applicants are not expected to major in theater arts in college.

Selection to be based on the following criteria:

  1. Completion of the Bowie Community Theatre’s Theatrical Arts Scholarship Application
  1. An interview and short performance-based activity for a panel of judges. The applicant will choose one (1) theatrical piece from a group of five (5) BCT preselected theatrical works. To demonstrate acting skills the applicant would perform a monolog for the panel. To demonstrate directing skills the applicant would direct other actors in the performance of the piece and explain to the panel how they brought out certain ideas or themes in the piece. To demonstrate technical skill, an applicant would design the costumes or provide a set design for the piece and explain to the panel how their design would enhance the production. Except to demonstrate acting skills, applicants may make a video presentation.

Applications can be emailed to orpostmarked to Bowie Community Theatre, PO Box 604, Bowie, MD 20718 by April 1, 2018. The winner will be announced prior to graduation and a $1000 check will be presented at our July 2018 performance at the Bowie Playhouse.
