  • Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the dashboard/steering hanger beam.
  • Put on gloves to protect your hands.
  • Take care not to scratch the dashboard, the body or the related parts.
  • Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
  1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
  2. Remove these items:
  3. A-pillar trims, both sides
  4. Driver's dashboard lower cover
  5. Driver's dashboard undercover (for some models)
  6. Kick panels, both sides:

- 2-door

- 4-door

  • Glove box
  • Passenger's dashboard undercover (for some models)
  • Center console
  • Steering column
  • Stereo amplifier, 2-door, with premium sound system

Driver's side

  1. Remove the bolt securing the under-dash fuse/relay box (A). Disconnect the roof wire harness connector (B), then lower the box.
  2. From under the dash, disconnect the cabin wire harness connectors (C), the driver's door wire harness connectors (D), and the floor wire harness connectors (E) from the dashboard wire harness connectors (F) or the under-dash fuse/relay box. 2-door: Release the joint (G) to remove the dashboard wire harness connectors from the floor wire harness connector.

2-door

4-door

Middle area

  1. Disconnect the SRS unit connector A and the antenna connector (B), then detach the wire harness clips (C). Remove the TORX ground bolt (D) with a TORX T30 bit.

Without premium sound system

With premium sound system

  1. Disconnect the A/C subharness connector (A) in the glove box opening.

Passenger's side

  1. From under the dash, disconnect the passenger's door wire harness connectors (A).

  1. Remove the special bolts (A) from outside the passenger's door.

-1 / 4-door: Remove the caps (B).
Loosen the special bolts until they disengage from the threads on the hanger beam side brackets (C), and engage the inside threads of the collar bolts (D). The thread lock on the special bolts makes the special bolts and the collar bolts turn together.
-3 / Continue to loosen the special bolts to turn the collar bolts into the fixed space adjusters (E) until the collar bolts engage the adjuster brackets. This creates a gap (F) between the collar bolts and the body.
Loosen the special bolts to disengage them from the collar bolts, then remove the bolts.
  1. If necessary, remove the dashboard side panel (A).

-1 / Gently pull out along the rear edge of the panel to release the hooks (B).
Gently pull out the panel to release the hooks (C).

2-door

4-door

  1. If the collar bolts (A) were not fully bottomed in the side brackets in step 8, finish screwing the collar bolts into the side brackets with a 21 mm open-end wrench (B). In this case, replace the special bolts with new ones because the thread lock is worn out.
  1. Remove the caps (A) (4-door), then remove the bolts (B, C, D, E) from outside the driver's door.

2-door

4-door

  1. Lift up the dashboard (A) to release it from the guide pins (B). Carefully remove the dashboard through the front door opening. Take care not to scratch the body with the collar bolts on the passenger's side.

NOTE: Do not rest the dashboard on its lower center cover opening, or it may be damaged. Lay it on its front or back.

  1. Remove the bolt and detach the connector clip (A), then remove the center pipe extension (B).
  1. Install the dashboard in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
  2. Make sure the dashboard fits onto the guide pins correctly.
  3. Before tightening the bolts, make sure the wire harnesses are not pinched.
  4. Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly, and the antenna lead and each cable are connected properly.
  5. Before reinstalling the dashboard, screw the special bolts (A) into the collar bolts (B), and check that they turn together. If they do not turn together, replace the special bolts.
  6. After setting the dashboard in the body, reinstall all of the mounting bolts but do not tighten them. First tighten the driver's side bracket bolts to the specified torque. Next, tighten the special bolts. As you tighten the bolts, the collar bolts screw out of the fixed space adjusters (C) until they contact the body. Continue tightening the special bolts to the specified torque.
  7. Apply medium strength liquid thread lock to the bolts securing the center bracket and the dashboard before reinstallation.
  8. Tighten all remaining mounting bolts to the specified torque.
  9. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure.
  10. Check for any DTCs that may have been set during repairs, and clear them.
