JOB-KEEPING SKILLS ASSIGNMENT

YOU’RE THE BOSS NOW!!!

Name: ______

So far in class you have been looking at the “getting a job” process from the view of someone applying or looking for a job. Well let’s fast forward! You have researched your career, prepared a resume, and cover letter, and learned about the interviewing process. (Those are your job-seeking skills). Now, it is time to take a look at what qualities someone who actually “gets the job” possesses.

Task: Using your textbook (Chapter 5) and internet sources make a “handout” that you as an employer would give to your employees that outlines the characteristics of a “perfect” employee.

1. Make up your own business (It is best if it relates to your #1 career from your career research but doesn’t have to). In other words, you will be making a list pointing out 5-10 qualities that you expect in your employees (for example, responsibility, politeness, organization, the possibilities are endless but you want them to relate to your business). These would be Job-Keeping Skills! (Have fun making up a name or logo for your business).

2. You must include a definition, example, OR picture for each of your qualities/skills.

3. Your handout may be done any way you wish! On the computer in a word document, PowerPoint Presentation, on paper if you write nicely, on tag board, etc. Just make sure that it looks professional and relates to the business that you have chosen. For example, if you choose to own a ranch, you may want to hang a poster/sign on one of your buildings for your employees to see.

You may also want to include an opening statement at the top that says that these are qualities that you expect from all employees that work for you.

You will be graded on the following:

Content (Contains 5-10 Qualities) / 15 POINTS
Creativity (Pictures, relation to chosen business) / 15 POINTS
Spelling/Grammar / 10 POINTS
Research (You don’t have to cite information, however, it needs to be obvious that you used one or more sources of information). / 10 POINTS
TOTAL POINTS / 50 POINTS

KEEP THIS SHEET TO HAND IN WITH YOUR HANDOUT!!!
