A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE MCGEE REAL ESTATE COMPANY FOR ITS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CITIZENS OF ITS SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES, AND TO CONGRATULATE ITS LEADERSHIP AND EMPLOYEES ON RECEIVING THE PRESTIGIOUS JEFFREY RUTLAND FAMILYOWNED BUSINESS OF THE YEAR AWARD.

Whereas, the McGee Real Estate Company is a familyowned business that began in a gas station in 1961 and through the years has grown into a major investment firm that buys and sells properties for investors and makes purchases for its own portfolio; and

Whereas, the company’s founder, Ted O. McGee, Sr., was an astute businessman, and his philosophy, “whatever the majority is doing, go and do the opposite”, has served the company well in its fortyfive year existence, as its leadership continually takes risks and earns great rewards and respect from both its clients and competitors; and

Whereas, when the real estate business suffered great blows in the mid 1970’s, McGee Real Estate Company made the unprecedented decision to rent fiftytwo houses with the option to buy, selling the best property and holding on to other property that was marketable. This decision has reaped many subsequent rewards; and

Whereas, in the 1980’s Ted O. McGee, Jr., Carroll McGee, and the late LuRue McGee obtained auctioneers licenses, which gave them the ability to auction millions of dollars worth of bank repossessions, including shopping centers, offices, farms, subdivisions, and industrial buildings; and

Whereas, by the early 1990’s the real estate market had gained momentum, and company decision makers expanded their reach into North Carolina, successfully handling liquidations and repossessions for area banks; and

Whereas, employee faithfulness and commitment to the furtherance of the company has been a key ingredient in McGee Real Estate Company’s success. There are a total of seventeen fulltime, licensed real estate agents, five of whom have broker’s licenses, two of whom are licensed appraisers, and five of whom are licensed auctioneers; and

Whereas, consistently cognizant of their duty to give back to their community, those involved with McGee Real Estate give of themselves and their resources in numerous individual and collective capacities, and the company stands as a model for others to follow; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to recognize the McGee Real Estate Company for the fine work it does in its core businesses and for the community and further, is proud to publicly recognize this outstanding company on the occasion of its receipt of this truly deserved award. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor the McGee Real Estate Company for its outstanding contributions to the citizens of its surrounding communities, and congratulate its leadership and employees on receiving the prestigious Jeffrey Rutland FamilyOwned Business of the Year Award.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Carroll McGee, Chairman of the Board, and Ted O. McGee, Jr., President and Secretary, of the McGee Real Estate Company.
