A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEMORATE THE FIFTEENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PIEDMONT WOMENS CENTER IN GREENVILLE COUNTY AND TO RECOGNIZE THE VALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS OF THIS NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION AND THE DEDICATION OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR LENNA NEILL.

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the milestones of nonprofit organizations who for many years have provided worthy services to the citizens of their local community and the State, and the Piedmont Womens Center of Greenville County is certainly one such organization; and

Whereas, founded in 1991, the Piedmont Womens Center receives no local, state, or government funding and relies completely on the community to supply the annual operating needs while providing a variety of free and confidential services and programs to meet client needs; and

Whereas, the center provides free pregnancy tests with immediate results and confidential counseling; a safe and secure place for a woman to talk about her feelings and explore her alternatives; limited obstetric ultrasounds through the first trimester of pregnancy; valuable information regarding pregnancy, abortion, fetal development, and parenting; and referrals for medical and legal aid information; and

Whereas, the center also provides information and counseling for sexuallytransmitted diseases; abortion recovery assistance for men and women who are survivors of abortion; and assistance with physical supplies for both mother and child if the parenting option is chosen by the mother; and

Whereas, the staff of the center also operates a twentyfour hour Hopeline for information and appointments so women in need never have to wait when facing an often frightening and uncertain future; and

Whereas, under the leadership of Executive Director Lenna Neill, the Piedmont Womens Center provides a friendly, compassionate atmosphere where trained peer counselors provide help and hope for women who are facing an unplanned pregnancy and the decisions that must be made accordingly; and

Whereas, every year nearly three thousand women turn to the center for help. Many women have described the dedicated counselors at the center as polite and understanding while not being judgmental, and warm, friendly, and supportive in an environment where they were not pressured about their decision and where they felt comfortable confronting the tough decisions they face; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to pause to express appreciation to the Piedmont Womens Center and its dedicated staff, to recognize the unwavering commitment of Executive Director Lenna Neill to women in need, and to acknowledge the center’s fifteen years of investment in the lives of women who come to the center for help and in the lives of their unborn children. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, commemorate the fifteenth anniversary of the Piedmont Womens Center in Greenville County and to recognize the valuable contributions of this nonprofit organization and the dedication of Executive Director Lenna Neill.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Lenna Neill, Executive Director of the Piedmont Womens Center.
