A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE LAMAR HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM AND THEIR COACHES ON WINNING THEIR THIRD CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND ON THEIR EXTRAORDINARY DEDICATION, DETERMINATION, AND HARD WORK THROUGHOUT THE 2004 SEASON, AND TO RECOGNIZE THEM UPON CAPTURING THE CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2004, AT WILLIAMS BRICE STADIUM.

Whereas, the game of football affords young people the opportunity to learn the importance of dedication and teamwork while developing amazing athletic talents; and

Whereas, becoming a champion in this sport requires every member of the team and coaching staff to have special leadership skills and physical prowess, as well as a finely honed ability to communicate effectively on the field; and

Whereas, using these talents, in concert with pure drive, determination, and countless hours of hard work, the members of the Varsity Football Team of Lamar High School had an outstanding season, with nine shutouts, and only allowed a statelow thirtyone points and three touchdowns in fifteen games; and

Whereas, with an outstanding performance from a top notch team and the superb coaching of Head Coach J.R. Boyd, the Lamar High School Varsity Football Team is known for its defensive skills and only allowed one team to score more than seven points all season; and

Whereas, the team continued its winning defensive prowess throughout the playoffs, finishing the season with an exceptional 150 record, and emerged victorious as the Class A State Champion by defeating Calhoun Falls High School on Saturday, December 4, 2004, with a score of 260; and

Whereas, with this magnificent season and outstanding victory, the 2004 Lamar High School Varsity Football Team won its third State Championship; and

Whereas, Head Coach Boyd was assisted by Linebacker Coaches Marshall King and Alan Poole, Offensive Line Coaches Charlie Poole and Jeffrey Hopkins, Defensive Line Coach Don Poole, Running Back Coaches Doug Collins and Marcus Fox, and Wide Receiver Coach Andy Howell, all of whom played pivotal roles in the success of this team; and

Whereas, it is with great pride and immense pleasure that we recognize the physical and mental abilities of these young South Carolinians and hope that they will use those skills both on and off the football field and in their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the Lamar High School Varsity Football Team and their coaches, on winning their third Class A State Championship and on their extraordinary dedication, determination, and hard work throughout the 2004 season, and recognize them upon capturing the Class A State Championship Title on Saturday, December 4, 2004, at Williams Brice Stadium.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Lamar High School Varsity Football Team and Head Coach J.R. Boyd.
