NOTICE OF RACE

Organizing Authority: The LIS 12-Meter Consortium

Hosted and Defended by: Pequot Yacht Club

1.Rules

1.1The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.

1.2A breach of the 12-Meter Class Rules will not be grounds for protest. This changes rule 60.1(a).

1.3Spinnakers will not be used.

1.4After initial setup and equalization by the boat owners, no changes may be made to sail configuration without permission from the Race Committee.

2.Eligibility

2.1Eligibility is restricted to the seven yacht clubs in the LIS 12-Meter Consortium, using the 12-Meter boats chartered for this regatta.

2.2A maximum of 12 crew members is permitted, except, where allowed by the Yacht Owner, a 13th crew member is permitted. The 13th crew member must act solely as an observer and not participate in any manner in the sailing of the 12-Meter.

2.3Any yacht with three or more crew (excluding the owner’s representative and paid hands) who are not current members of the club they represent is ineligible for a trophy.

2.4 ISAF Group 2 or Group 3 competitors are not permitted to crew (except as owners’ representatives and paid hands) unless they are current members of the club they represent. Yachts breaking this rule will be disqualified.

3. Entry Fees

Each competing club must pay the Charter Fee of $4,200. The due date for each installment will be communicated to the competing clubs by America’s Cup Charters.

Each competing club must pay the three person paid-crew of their 12-Meter a $150 tip, and give them lunch.

Each competing club must pay the Host Club (Pequot Yacht Club) no more than $200 to cover costs for trophies, shirts for Race Committee personnel and other incidentals.

4.Location

The course will be on Long Island Sound off Bridgeport, in the vicinity of Bell 2.

5.Schedule

5.1Syndicate heads meet with yacht owners (or their representatives) at 1000 on October 9 at Captains Cove.

5.2Skippers meeting at 1030 on October 9 at Captains Cove.

5.3Three races are anticipated, although more may be sailed if time permits.

5.4A harbor start is scheduled for 1100 from Captains Cove and the first warning signal is scheduled for 1230.

5.5No warning signal will be made after 1600.

5.6The awards party will be at Pequot Yacht Club after racing (approximately 1745 onwards).

6.Scoring

A boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores without discard. One race constitutes a series.

7.Penalties for Breaking Rules of Part 2 of The Racing Rules of Sailing

Rules 44.1 and 44.2 are changed so that only one turn, including one tack and one gybe, is required.

8.Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers. The first prize will consist of a trophy (to be retained by the winning club) and a “perpetual” base which will be handed over to the winner of the subsequent 12 Meter Challenge. The second and third prizes are to be retained by the clubs finishing in second and third place respectively.

9.Communications

The Notice of Regatta, Sailing Instructions, results and other information will be available on the Pequot Yacht Club Website at and in the Sailing Room at Pequot Yacht Club. At 0900 on Saturday, October 9, notices to competitors will be moved to a temporary notice board at Captains Cove. 35 minutes after the last of the 12-meter yachts docks at Captain’s Cove after the last race, the temporary official notice board will be removed and notices to competitors will be moved back to the official notice board at Pequot Yacht Club
