A BILL

TO AMEND ACT 1627 OF 1972, RELATING TO THE DORCHESTER COUNTY VOCATIONAL EDUCATION BOARD OF TRUSTEES, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE SEVEN MEMBERS OF THE BOARD MUST BE APPOINTED BY THE DORCHESTER COUNTY COUNCIL AND PROVIDE THAT A MEMBER OF A SCHOOL BOARD OF TRUSTEES MAY NOT SERVE ON THE VOCATIONAL EDUCATION BOARD.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION1.Section 1 of Act 1627 of 1972 is amended to read:

“SECTION1.There is hereby created in Dorchester County the Dorchester Vocational Education Board of Trustees, which shall be a body politic and corporate, and which shall consist of seven members as follows: one member of the board shall be appointed from each of the three school districts in Dorchester County by a majority of the board of trustees of the district and four members shallto be appointed by a majority of the Dorchester County Legislative DelegationCouncil. One member must be appointed from each county council district. All members shall serve for a term of three years and until their successors are appointed and qualify, except that of those initially appointed, the members appointed by the school districts shall serve for terms of two years and until their successors are appointed and qualifyexisting members of the board previously appointed by the Dorchester County Legislative Delegation shall serve until July 1, 2006, and until their successors are appointed by the county council and qualify. Terms of the members appointed from each of the school districts must be terminated immediately and replaced with members appointed by the county council. A member of a school board of trustees may not serve on the vocational education board. Vacancies on the board of trustees shall be filled in the manner of the original appointment for the unexpired portion of the term only.”

SECTION2.This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
