GRAVITY GAMES LAUNCHES AMATEUR SKATEPARK SERIES
Winners Skate At 2002 Gravity Games

CLEVELAND – The Gravity Games™, the premier action sports, music and lifestyle festival, has created a network of amateur skateboard contests across the country that will send 14 winners to skate at the Gravity Games in Cleveland. This year’s Gravity Games will be set in Cleveland’s North

Coast Harbor behind the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, July 31- August 4.

“We are very excited about the Amateur Skatepark Series. We have partnered with 14 of the best amateur skateboard contests around the country to create this series,” said Wade Martin, Executive Director of Gravity Games. “The growth of action sports, particularly at a grassroots level, is phenomenal and we wanted to find a way to support these local amateur contests. These events, coupled with the trip to the Gravity Games for each contest winner, should make for a great series for the many amateur skateboard participants throughout the country.”

The Gravity Games Amateur Skatepark Series will tie into contests at 14 skate parks across the country, sending the winner of each to session on the actual Gravity Games pro course. It is the evolution of a test program that went to five cities last year. The tour kicked off on Saturday, May 25 at the Rye Airfield in Rye, N.H. (a full schedule of events follows this release). The winner of each contest will win an all-expense paid trip to Cleveland and will participate in an exhibition event on the Gravity Games street course.

“The progression of amateur skating has stepped up tremendously in the last few years. The tricks amateur skaters are doing today are what the pro’s did five years ago. That’s unbelievable,” said Jason Womack, H Town Skates Promoter and pro-skater. “I am stoked that the Gravity Games have recognized the amateur scene and are in full support of its future.”

Entering its fourth year, the Gravity Games will feature more than 250 of the worlds best professional action sports athletes competing in Bike, Freestyle Motocross, Street Luge, Skateboarding, Inline and Wakeboarding events. In the heart of the action is an interactive festival village which features something for everyone including live concerts from some of today's top bands, the latest in action sports equipment and fashion, interactive demos and athlete autograph sessions.

NBC will broadcast 10 hours of Gravity Games this fall in addition to an extensive international television schedule. Last year’s coverage garnered 2 Emmy nominations for NBC Sports. Check local listings for dates and times.

The Gravity Games is jointly owned through a strategic partnership between PRIMEDIA (NYSE: PRM), the leading targeted media company, Octagon, the global sports marketing arm of The Interpublic Group (NYSE: IPG) and NBC Sports.

The Gravity Games is presented by Dodge and sponsored by Mongoose and GT Bikes, Lee Dungarees, Norelco Shaving Products and Speed Stick® Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant.
