Brooklyn Eagle, Friday, Sept. 17, 1954

Frank Bassett, 74, Dead; Retired Finance Adviser

Frank Bassett, 74, of Pine Acres, Petersburg, Va., financial adviser years ago of Anthony N. Brady, capitalist and a former board chairman of the old Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company, the Brooklyn heights Railroad Company and head of a number of other large corporations, including the old Edison Electric Illuminating Company, died of a heart condition on Tuesday. He had been ill for six months.

Mr. Bassett lived in this borough at 164 Lincoln Road for 28 years prior to his moving to Virginia in 1946. Previously he lived in the Park Slope section.

After the death of Mr. Brady in 1913, Mr. Bassett continued with the financier’s sons, Nicholas F. and James Cox Grady in looking after the Brady estate. The latter died in 1927 and Nicholas F. in 1930, after which Mr. Bassett became associated with the William Rockefeller estate.

In early life Mr. Bassett was a partner in the Kenny Coal Company, Sheepshead Bay, which later became the property of the Knickerbocker Ice Company. At one time he had a seat on the Produce Exchange.

Mr. Bassett was born in Manhattan, the son of Richard Bassett, who was in the woolen business, and spent his boyhood days in Toronto, Canada, where his father was in business for many years. The son returned to this city after being graduated from the University of Toronto as a chartered accountant.

His wife, Ann McElroy Bassett, survives.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow from the Clavin Funeral Home, 7722 4th Ave. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
