Dear Jefferson Families,
This is the Principal’s newsletter that goes home on every other Friday. In this newsletter you will see a column for upcoming events. Please put these dates and times into your family calendar. This newsletter is a space for me to communicate important information to families about all things Jefferson. I look forward to continued communication with you all.

Breakfast is available daily from 7:45 to 8:05 in the cafeteria and is free for all students.Lunch is served daily at a cost of $2.50 for full price. Our lunch times are 11:00Kindergarten, 11:30 first and second grade, 12:00 third grade, & 12:30 fourth and fifth grade. Please note that for added security parents are not permitted in the cafeteria unless they are volunteers that have undergone the screening process.

School Safety Procedures

To ensure the safety of students and staff and to avoid potential disruptions, all visitors shall immediately register (identification needed) in the main school office. All visitors during school hours must provide the teachers 24 hour notice. This is in support of the Board Approved Policy. We are asking all visitors to enter through the main entrance on Bancroft. Adults on campus without proper identification will be asked to register.

To clarify, teachers are available to meet with parents as needed between 7:50 and 8:10 and from 3:00 to 3:20 daily. Unlike the visitor policy, the 24 hour rule is not in effect for these time periods.

We are in constant need of volunteers. Please see the main office to get the appropriate paperwork to be filed with the district. Volunteers are considered unpaid employees of the district and thus we take these positions very serious. Volunteers are asked to be fully present and to abide by all the rules and regulations of the school and district.

Kindergarten Parents

Kindergarten students will continue to line up outside by the kinder yard but beginning Monday, September 8 parents will not be allowed to walk with their child to the classroom. Parents are welcome to wait outside with their child until the Kindergarten teacher arrives to greet the students.

Drop-Off and Dismissal

In the morning, please pull all the way forward and as close to the curb as possible in the Bancroft lot to drop off your child. This is for the safety of all students. Please do not leave your vehicles unattended anywhere in the Bancroft lot. If you need to come inside, please park on the nearby streets and walk inside.

Student pick up policies are as follows. If you are a returning family, please review the procedures. If you are a new family, please make note of the procedures. These procedures are in place for the safety of ALL students. Thank you for your cooperation.

  • Pick-ups All students will be exited on the Bancroft side of the school.
  • There is no designated area for driver pick-ups in front of school.
  • All parents are to park their cars in the neighborhood and walk to the front of the school to pick up your children.
  • Drivers coming to the front parking lot to pick up students has proven to be dangerous for students and causes a traffic mess on Bancroft Avenue.
  • Parents are to remain outside of the building until dismissal time. Students will be walked out to meet you.
  • Students who have classes in the Stanford Hallway will be dismissed in front of the main office.
  • Students who have classes in Berkeley Hallway will be dismissed in front of school by the gate close to 142nd Avenue.
  • Please use the crosswalks in front of the flagpole and on 142nd Avenue to cross the street.
  • Please use crosswalks rather than darting across the street in between cars.
  • These policies for pick up are not meant to inconvenience parents, but rather to ensure the safety of students.
