A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE WESTGATE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL “LADY EAGLES” BASKETBALL TEAM, OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY, ON ITS IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2008 SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS CLASS A STATE GIRLS BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS, COACH, AND STAFF ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON.

Whereas, well prepared for the challenge, the Westgate Christian School “Lady Eagles” basketball team crowned its superlative 171 season by capturing the 2008 South Carolina Association of Christian Schools Class A State Girls Basketball Championship title, defeating Victory Christian 5740 at Greenville’s Hampton Park Christian School on Saturday, February 16, 2008; and

Whereas, championship play in basketball demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as team play and good sportsmanship; and

Whereas, using these talents and attributes, Coach Laurie Holland and her players showed both fans and foes alike that the Lady Eagles’ winning of this victory was no lucky accident; and

Whereas, demonstrating both poise and class and led by junior point guard Ashley Williams, these tenacious athletes nailed their school’s first state basketball championship, thus adding luster to a record that already included top wins at two preseason tournaments; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing the young women of the Westgate Christian School girls basketball team for leading with excellence both in the classroom and on the basketball court and expects to hear of continued great achievements in the years ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Westgate Christian School “Lady Eagles” basketball team, of Spartanburg County, on its impressive win of the 2008 South Carolina Association of Christian Schools Class A State Girls Basketball Championship title, and honor the players, coach, and staff on an outstanding season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Tony Seiber and Coach Laurie Holland of Westgate Christian School.
