12 competitors recently took part in the first race of the season; the reservoir was full, a bit chilly, with a “fair breeze”.

The Race Officer set interesting courses, one before lunch (which was excellent) followed by two back to back, which all of the competitors found testing.

Jeff was in top form, almost inspired, Mike was close at his heels, as normal the three races had plenty of incidents to keep things on the boil.

The Race Officer, Tony Paine was in a perfect position to observe many of these incidents and was able to offer the benefit of his sailing knowledge to some of the competitors at the prize giving.

Collin Allen, who in race 3 , went for a “dip” sliding of the side, has been recommended to spend some time on the internet examining the use of friction type materials suitable for wet conditions. (google search might do it????)

Jeff, for personal development own sanity etc, should enrol onto a level 1 course which helps with “time management, meeting deadlines, arriving at the start line on time”. It is suggested if the course starts on a Tuesday, Jeff should plan to attend on the Monday, he may then be in the correct place by the Tuesday.

Mike, who had a great start in race 1, and then felt he, should give the others a chance to catch up, should review his understanding / recognition of numbers, or maybe just decided to make the course more interesting by visiting number 5. He seems to have a particular attraction to it.

John Shimell, who had a “further” 21st birthday on Saturday, was lucky enough to win the “draw”, a nice bottle of whisky, Tony Paine offered to open it for him if his hands were too cold, but John declined.

This event was sponsored by Exmoor Ales, so all of the competitors had a sample beer as a prize (excellent stuff) and our thanks go to them and all of the helpers who made this event a very enjoyable event.

We look forward to seeing you all again next year.

Cheers Mike Green

Ps, well done Chris, it’s good to finish ?
