11v11 and 8v8 - Game process - Pre – Game

  1. 1 hour prior to Kick-Off - Arrival
  2. 45 minutes prior - Structured passing with cones 15x15 - 5v2 minimum, 8v2 (20x20) max - Structured by let the players relax and have fun laughing, joking, nutmegs etc. encouraged
  3. 35 minutes prior - Water intake - dynamic warm-up(Video Below) and passing combinations
  4. 25 minutes prior - SAQ - Fast feet functioning - 2 minute talk from Head Coach to various different players (Individually or with field units)
  5. 20 minutes prior - Water intake - Put starting 10 players into 5v5 Non-directional, directional - Goalkeepers warm up with one another, or with Assistant Coach
  6. 10 minutes prior - Change into game jersey - Players own time - Take in water, pre-game snacks, energy gels, tape socks, be personally prepared
  7. 7 minutes prior - Practice visualization techniques, final talk from head coach and team huddle

Half-time team talk

  1. Allow players 1 minute to decompress, grab fluids and/or snacks
  2. Limit talk to 3-4 point max.
  3. Ensure points are related to improvements that can be made in the second half
  4. Emphasize at least 1 point on team shape (defense/midfield/attack), where to address negatives or where to continue to improve quality
  5. Ensure emotions don’t crowd your talk - leave them for review after the game

Post - Game

  1. All players to respect opposing team, officials and match officials with handshake and appreciation
  2. All players to respect team-mates with handshake, hug, high-five or other and appreciate the effort regardless of the score
  3. Team captain(s) to take team across the field on 30% pace jog
  4. Halfway, skip it out to opposite sideline
  5. On the way back, side to side shuffles, with knees bent - both ways
  6. Rest of the way perform deep lunges and calf walks
  7. Whole cool down process should take 5-7 minutes of players and coach time - NO long static stretching
  8. In this time, the coach gathers thoughts and leaves players with a re-cap of 3 points of improvement to take away. Remind players not to speak or think too much about the performance in the following 24 hours and emphasizes every positive they can
  9. Game cool down and debrief should be 12-15 minutes
  10. PYSL players and staff always leave a field or bench, better than when they arrived to it
