Prior to the running of this event trainer Barrie Rattray advised that due to the gate speed drawn to the inside is was the connections intention to restrain BYMARJAC at the start and for the gelding to be driven with a sit if circumstances permitted. A public announcement to this effect was made.

HEY HARDY NZ was held up rounding the home turn then obtained an inside run over the concluding stages.

Following the running of the event driver Adrian Collins (PARTBOY GLENWOOD) lodged a protest against BYMARJAC (Wade Rattray) being declared second place getter, alleging interference shortly before entering the home straight and in the home straight. After taking evidence from both drivers, acting on their own observations and viewing the official replays, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that any interference outweighed the margin of a head at the finish and dismissed the protest.

Driver Wade Rattray was fined the sum of $100 under AR 162(1)(y) for failing to adhere to the minimum sectional time requirements for this event. Mr Rattray was also reprimanded under AR 162(1)(www) for shifting ground in the home straight.

Stewards inquired into the driving tactics adopted by Wade Rattray (BYMARJAC). After taking evidence from driver Wade Rattray and trainer Barrie Rattray, Wade Rattray explained that the gelding has pulled during the score up and with only HEY HARDY NZ showing gait speed to his inside he was able to get across to the one out line without asking the gelding for any effort. Mr Duggan explained that the mare had been able to get to the position outside the leader without doing any considerable work, doing so during the relative slow early sectional, and then failed to run on from the 800 metres. Mr Duggan stated that in his view that the mare may have not backed up successfully from its run last week when she had led the three wide line from the bell when winning. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards queried trainer Zeke Slater as to the mares apparent poor performance. GOTTALOVEFRIDAYS pulled hard in the score up.

ROBYN SCHERBOTSKY NZ (Troy Hillier) hung in on the first turn whilst racing three wide to the outside of GOTTALOVEFRIDAYS (Erin Hollaway) which tended to hang out and the two then locked wheels, dislodging driver Erin Holloway.

Stewards inquired into the reasons for ROBYN SCHERBOTSKY NZ (Troy Hillier) and GOTTALOVEFRIDAYS (Erin Hollaway) locking wheels and after taking evidence from both drivers and acting on their own observations it was established that the racing manners of both horses had caused them to lock wheels and that when GOTTALOVEFRIDAY’s driver Erin Holloway restrained to attempt to unlock the wheels her drive shifted abruptly up the track causing her to be dislodged from the sulky. Miss Holloway was examined by the on course ambulance officers and was uninjured. GOTTALOVEFRIDAYS underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.
