10th ANNUAL LSIF MEETING

INTRODUCTION

Since 2002 the APEC Life Sciences Innovation Forum (LSIF) has led the Asia-Pacific region in developing a model for regional cooperation to promote and support bio-medical life sciences innovation to stimulate economic growth and improve the quality of life for its people.

To mark the 10th year since LSIF’s establishment, APEC Member economies meeting in Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation will assess the results of the implementation of the first LSIF Strategic Plan and will begin to discuss and recommend areas to be included in an update to the Strategic Plan to be developed later in 2012. Throughout the meeting member economies will review work accomplished and work underway in the LSIF’s four areas of focus: research, development, manufacturing and marketing, and healthcare. Member economies will review the core work streams within these four focus areas that would benefit from continued work and will discuss how to build upon work streams where significant progress has been achieved. Member economies will also consider how to incorporate new work streams and potential new work areas into the second LSIF Strategic Plan.

The LSIF has a unique tripartite structure that enables high level representatives from government, academia, and the private sector to contribute to the important discussions on life sciences innovation in the Asia Pacific. The LSIF welcomes distinguished invited guests to the 10th LSIF Meeting and looks forward to their valuable contributions.
