January 2013

Happy New Year Girls.

We hope you all had a great Christmas & happy New Year celebration. Best wishes for a happy, healthy & safe 2013. We hope you find some quiet time over the summer break to do some stitching or simply read some Patchwork Magazines for inspiration, or if you are like me, make a note that, here is another project to do one day.

It has been an eventful time for me during January as Vic & I welcomed a new grandson “Jaxon Anthony” on 7th January. Looking forward to lots of cuddles. We also spent a few days camping in the beautiful high country (before the fires) & another few days on the Murray River watching the older grandies skiing & enjoying the beautiful riverland at Berri.

Shirl & Bruce had a few days with friends in South Australia. We are all refreshed & ready for another busy year.

Christmas Spirit Retreat.

Our retreat in November was an amazing success, with everyone telling us it was our best one ever. A huge “thank you” to our talented tutors: Jodie, Leanne & Rosalie who created the most enjoyable atmosphere. For 2 days we were entertained & educated. Leanne shared her experience of producing her magazine “Vignette” & the importance of labeling our quilts; Rosalie told us what inspires her & the process of designing & producing her fabric range while Jodie simply entertained us with her real life stories. Hopefully we can follow up with another great retreat this year. Our tutors are already booked & plans are under way so we will soon be able to share this exciting news.

2013 Block of the Month Projects:

Shirl has been busy working on a Christmas Block of the Month that we found at the Houston Quilt Market. A lovely bright theme, embellished with lots of buttons & threads. We are also offering a second option using Lynette Andersons Christmas range. This will be starting soon, so if you are interested, please let us know so that we can order patterns.

We are also offering “A Little Bit Country” by Libby Richardson. This new BOM is equally as beautiful as her last. Call for details of these two quilts.

New Products and Patterns:

We have trialed the new product called Transfer Eze. Simply photocopy or scan your stitchery design onto the specially designed adhesive water soluble product. After finishing your stitchery, simply wash away & your stitched project is ready to use.

Ruler by Westalee that makes binding quilts easier. Called “Bound to Fit”, use this ruler to cut perfect 45 angles for joining your binding strips & then use it to align your joining seam.

Scandinavian Rose by Rosalie Quinlan

This beautiful set of patterns by Rosie are perfect for stitching while the weather is hot. They come already printed on hanky linen, ready to start stitching. We have collected a range of Tilda pinks that we think will finish off the project. Call for more information.

Pumpkin Pin Cushionis just one of the projects we have got to make using felt or wool. The pumpkin is the perfect place to store the delightful novelty pins. Ask to see our range on your next visit or call for the pattern & pins.

Wool is the new trend fabric. During the year we will be offering several projects made using it. Keep posted.

New FabricRanges:

We have 2 new ranges from Riley Blake that are perfect for making children’s quilts. “Sweetest Things” is bright & fresh & would be beautiful for any little girl. “Super Star” is very suited to any young man with a variety of stripes, stars & spots. No need for a complicated pattern, when simple would be best. Call in to check out these two oranges.

The new range by Rosalie Quinlan “Candy Blooms” is due in the store any day soon. Keep posted on our Facebook site to check when it arrives.

Sit & Sew Groups.

Friday night Pie & Tart nights will restart on Friday 22 February at 6.00pm. Everyone is welcome to join for a casual night of stitching & a light tea.

Tuesday Group will restart on Tuesday 5th of February at 1.00pm. Just bring along whatever you are working on or start a new project.

OUT & ABOUT

Quilters Harvest will be out & about again this year. Our first road trip will be to EUSTON for International Quilters Day. This is an annual event & is being hosted by the Robinvale Group. See you there on March 16th.

Best wishes to all our quilting friends as we look forward to another year of fellowship in stitches.
