1. Scope of Deliverable 1
The scope of Deliverable 1 is to create a common framework on which to build methodology, recognize gaps and define metrics to reach the goals of this Focus Group :
o Understand and mitigate negative impact of ICT on climate change (raw material extraction, production, use phase, end of life), increasing in particular the efficiency of equipment, networks and organisations.
o Understand and encourage positive impact (see different categories in MIC document C-57: travel substitution, product substitution, smart buildings… ) : reducing GHG emissions
o Understand and foster possible adaptation to climate change impacts thanks to ICT
o Understand and encourage measurement and monitoring of climate change impacts
2. Terminology List
The Deliverable 1 covers the following domains of definitions :
- Climate Change
- Information and Communication Technologies
- Energy and links between climate change and energy
- Climate change impact assessment
- Relationship between climate change and economics impacts
- Energy and eco-design efficiency of ICT / Telecom
3. Key references
Deliverable 1 principalyprincipally refers to :
- IPCC definitions
- ISO definitions
4. Direction of the work
On top ofIn addition to providing definitions, Deliverable 1 gives a general description of the impacts of ICT / Telecom on Climate Change, including the positive and negative impacts.
In the annexes, you will find details on selected classes of equipments, a glossary and references.
5. Uncertainties to resolve (based on contribution conflicts or contribution(s) still needed)
A more extensive definition of rebound effect and associated terminology is needed.
6. Dependencies and proposals for future work( e.g. for SGs or other standards bodies)
New definitions coming in contributions from Deliverables 2, 3 and 4 will need to be analysed for potential inclusion in revised versions of Deliverable 1.
7. Key Definitions
These include unit(s) of energy and unit(s) of efficiency.
