I.  CALL TO ORDER
Dr. Burrell, chairman, called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM as a regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education. Greg Crawford led the pledge of allegiance.

II.  RECOGNITION OF GUESTS

Fairview Elementary School kindergarten students presented a card and sang two songs in recognition of School Board Appreciation Week.

VII.  DIRECTOR’S REPORT

A.  Something Good – Shawna Cox, Dutch Valley Elementary School, described the Envisions math program used in her class. She said it utilizes an incredible foundation beginning in kindergarten. The program uses manipulatives; students problem solve through the use of technology and conversations and teachers use the online resources as well. She said the program helps teachers and students to use math in the real world.

B.  Mr. Foster read a proclamation from Gov. Bill Haslam in honor of School Board Appreciation Week January 22 – 28, 2012.

The report was accepted as read.

A.  Motion by Glenda Langenberg and seconded by Rickey Rose to revise policy 5.202 Separation Practices for Non-Certified employees (renamed Classified Employees) on second reading. Motion carried.

Mr. Woodward stated the comptroller just completed the audit for Anderson County and the school system had no findings.

Mr. Woodward provided an update on the 143 fund; Central Cafeteria appropriation of $210,000.00 as approved by the board in December 2011. The county budget committee deferred action on the appropriation for 30 days at their December meeting. It was reconsidered at their meeting on January 5. They approved the request as submitted and it is going to the full commission “with recommendation” for approval on Tuesday, January 17, 2012.
