Present simple and present continious

Use of present simple:

-  things that are true in general (ex I like big cities)

-  things that happen sometimes or all the time (ex the earth goes around the sun, the shop closes at 5 o’clock)

-  always/never/often/sometimes/usually + present simple (ex Tim lives near us. We often see him.

-  Habits (Gewohnheiten)

-  Job information (ex my cousin works for Microsoft)

-  Hobbies (ex my wife sings in a choir)

Use of present continues:

-  Formation: conjugated verb to be + verb with –ing

-  Things that are happening now (ex look, It’s snowing! (now) )

-  Temporary situations (ex Ann’s working in London this week, Tom is learning Chinese)

Used to

Used to do something (used to + base form)

(etwas, was in der Vergangenheit gewohnheitsmässig war, es jetzt aber nicht mehr ist)

-  I used to smoke, but I stopped tow years ago.

-  Do you go to the movies very often? Not now, but I used to. (….aber früher tat ich das)

-  Didn’t you use_ to wear glasses Linda? (Info: Question form, will be created with “did/didn’t” there is no “d” in the question form)

Be used to (to be used to + noun/pronoun or verb +ing) (beschreibt, eine bestehende Gewohnheit “etwas gewohnt sein”)

-  in Alaska, we are used to cold weather.

-  We’re used to eating late.

Get used to (to get used to + noun/pronoun or verb + ing) ( beschreibt einen Gewöhnungsprozess “sich an etwas gewöhnen”)

-  i can’t get used to this new uniform

-  we get used to eating very fast.
