Zia Natural Gas Company Scholarship

The Zia Natural Gas Company is offering a scholarship to graduating seniors from the class of 2017. This scholarship is offered to seniors who will enroll in an engineering, business, or science field of study. Applications are available in the HHS Counseling Office and are due April 1.

Lunardon Orthodontics Health Profession Scholarship

The Lunardon Orthodontics Health Profession Scholarship is offered to seniors who plan to pursue a degree in the health profession. Applications are available in the HHS Counseling Office. Applications are due March 31.

Ralph and Toadie Clarke Citizenship Award

The nomination forms for the Ralph and Toadie Clarke Citizenship Award are available in the counseling office. This is a prestigious award, and requirements include: outstanding moral character, GPA of 90 or better and top 10% of graduating class, outstanding citizenship and service to school and community. Deadline for nominations by an educator or administrator is Thursday, April 13, 2017.

American Heart Scholarship

Applications for the American Heart Scholarship are available in the counseling office. The deadline to apply is April 13. Applicants must have received notification of acceptance to an accredited college or university.

Dr. Reddy Scholarship

Applications for the Dr. Reddy Scholarship are available in the counseling office. The deadline to apply is April 13.

Texaco Star Challenge Academic Scholarship

Applications for the Texaco Star Challenge Academic Scholarship are available in the counseling office. The deadline to apply is April 13.

The Ralph Tasker Scholarships

Applications for the Ralph Tasker Scholarship are available in the counseling office. The deadline to apply is April 13.

NMJC College Foundation Scholarship Application--Wilma Brooks Scholarship

Ms. Brooks is currently an instructor at the Hobbs Murphy Alternative High School and this scholarship has been set up by an anonymous donor in her honor. The criteria for this specific scholarship are: 1. Students must have and maintain a minimum of 2.5 GPA, 2. 1st preference: Graduate of Hobbs Murphy Alternative High School Learning Center. 3. 2nd preference: Graduate of Hobbs High School. Students may apply for the Wilma Brooks Scholarship and various other scholarships on the website. It is anticipated that the online application will be ready on February 15.3 The deadline of the application is March 15.

National Hispanic Caucus (NHCSL)—Comcast Scholarship

The NHCSL-Comcast Scholarship initiative is in its eleventh year. Students from 43 states and territories who reside in a district of a latino state legislator are eligible for the opportunity to earn a one-time $3,000 scholarship to assist with the costs of college tuition. Dallas Baptist University: Junior Application Information

Dallas Baptist University (DBU) will be opening the admissions application for junior students beginning March 15. A student’s senior year can be a very busy and overwhelming time as they begin to choose colleges that will help them best succeed in their future endeavors. DBU wants to provide students with the opportunity to begin the application process early in order to give them the option to begin working on the process and applying for scholarships all before their senior year begins to help alleviate the pressures of college decisions. Beth Gann Scholarship

The Beth Gann Scholarship is available to young women of Lea County who rank in the top 25% of their class, are graduating from high school this May and will be attending an accredited junior college or university in the fall of this year. The application details the requirements. Applications are available in the Counseling Office. Application packets are due by March 31.

Lea County Farm and Livestock Bureau Scholarship

The senior students of Lea County are eligible to apply for this scholarship in the amount of $2,000 to be divided in amounts of $1,000 at the beginning of each semester of their freshman year. Applications are due April 15 and are available in the Counseling Office.

Lunardon Scholarship

This scholarship is offered to students who are interested in pursuing a degree in a health profession after graduation. Students can apply for the “Lunardon Orthodontics Health Profession Scholarship” at lunardonortho.com. The scholarship is for $2,000 and the deadline for all applications is March 31.

Albuquerque Community Foundation

Student Aid Applications are not OPEN! $160,000 is available to be awarded for the 2017-2018 school year. The Albuquerque Community Foundation has 11 separate student aid programs for high school seniors to help New Mexico students attain their educational goals. Each program is different and you may qualify for one or more program. Apply online today at

Finis Heidel Trust Scholarship

Heidel Scholarship applications are available in the HHS Guidance Office. Scholarships will be awarded to 2017 graduates of Lea County High Schools who meet all of the qualifying criteria as stipulated in the application. Only students who will attend New Mexico schools or universities or surrounding Texas schools that waive out-of-state tuition for all New Mexico students will be eligible to apply. Private schools are not included unless they are in New Mexico. The due date for this application is March 23, 2017.

Hobbs Hispano chamber of Commerce Foundation 2017 Scholarship Application

The Hobbs Hispano Chamber of Commerce Foundation Scholarship Program recognizes graduating high school seniors for their educational, leadership, and community service qualities. We award scholarships to those graduating seniors that want to continue their education at an institution of higher learning. Our Scholarship Committee will consider educational achievement, leadership qualities, letters of recommendation, written essay, community involvement, and financial need. Applications are available in the HHS Counseling Office. Applications are due April 3.

Estacado Federal Credit Union 2017 Scholarship

The Estacado Federal Credit Union Scholarship is a one-time non-renewable scholarship available in the amount of $500. This will be subject to confirmation that the requirements of gpa and enrollment have been met. For eligibility requirements and for a copy of the application, please stop by the counseling office. Applications are due May 1.

2017 Student-View Scholarship Program

The 2017 Student-View Scholarship Program is offering $11,000 worth of scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior college or career school. The program includes: one $4,000 scholarship, two $1,000 scholarships, and ten $500 scholarships. It’s quick and easy to apply. Simply log on to and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area. The scholarship will be awarded via a random drawing of all completed applications. The scholarship winners will be announced in May. Don’t wait. The scholarship deadline is April 22, 2017.

Hobbs Quarterback Club

The Hobbs Quarterback Club is extremely proud of our football program and the contribution that each team member makes. The hard work and time spent does not go unnoticed. We are fortunate to be in a position to offer our seniors an opportunity to apply for scholarships that can help them further their education. Applications are available in the counseling office. All applications need to be turned in to the counseling office no later than Friday, April 28.

Ursula Wilcox Memorial Scholarship

Ursula Wilcox called Hobbs “home” for the 33 years prior to her passing in 2012. Education was very important to her. Her five children all graduated from Hobbs High School and went on to receive college degrees. Mrs. Wilcox was a substitute teacher at Hobbs High School between 1994 and 2004. She very much enjoyed her association with the faculty, staff, and students during this time. One of the things she appreciated most was working with students with strong moral character and integrity, respectful students who worked hard and were mindful of others. She herself was an excellent example of these qualities. It is in her honor that this scholarship is given by the Wilcox Family. The scholarship is a one-time award of $2,500 payable to the school of your choice. All parts of the application are due to Mr. Ayers by Friday, March 24, 2017. New Mexico Federation of Republican Women 2017 Scholarship

It is with great pleasure that the New Mexico Federation of Republican Women distribute copies of our scholarship application. Applications are available in the HHS Counseling Office. Applications are due March 15.

Howard R Stroup Scholarship

The Howard R Stroup Scholarship will provide $500 tuition at New Mexico State University, for two consecutive semesters during the recipient’s freshman year. Applications are due March 10. For more information, please stop by the HHS Counseling Office.

Hobbs Masonic Lodge Scholarship

Each year, through the Hobbs Masonic Lodge Scholarship Program, the Hobbs Masonic Lodge supports four young scholars from Hobbs, New Mexico. One student is awarded the Hobbs Masonic Lodge Distinguished Scholarship and three are awarded Hobbs Masonic Lodge Scholarships. Applications are due March 31. Marine Corps League Detachment 1185 Scholarship

Applicants for the 2017 Marine Corps League Detachment 1185 Scholarship must be a graduating senior from Hobbs High School. Applicants must have firm plans to attend college and show a letter of acceptance. Applicants must have a current grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Applications are available in the HHS Counseling Office. Applications are due April 15.

Senior to do list for March

  • Check with the financial aid offices to ensure your paperwork is complete. Submit tax forms if they request them.
  • Narrow your school choices and make campus visits.
  • Be on the lookout for acceptance letters.
  • Start looking for summer jobs.
