PUPIL DISCIPLINE POLICY

(including anti-bullying)

A school’s effectiveness in developing good behaviour and self-discipline influences young offenders. The publication gives a benchmark on the running of the school by looking at standards of pupil behaviour.

4. Accept responsibility for their behaviour and be self-critical.
5. Appreciate the existence of different peoples, traditions, cultures and religions etc.

CONCLUSION
This policy aims to create a kind, considerate and non-oppressive ethos within the school. Firm discipline is essential to achieve this goal. The purpose of this policy is to try to create a sense of care and security within the school.
Through being exercised in a fair yet robust manner, these guidelines should ensure fairness for all.
Efforts will be made to treat all children fairly but, in order to ensure fairness, the nature of the punishment, for the same wrongdoing, will range from child to child. This will depend on the personality, circumstances, maturity and overall response of the child to accept punishment.
ANTI BULLYING LEAD
As part of the pupils' moral and social development, addressing this issue is integral. The way in which pupils work together is an issue that should be considered on the first day of their career in primary school. The foundations are set in the child's social development programme in the Early Years, and this aspect is developed at every opportunity in Key Stages 1 and 2. Raising the child's awareness of the dangers of bullying is something that arises in RE lessons, cross-curricular in class activities, in the Morning Services and also the Hidden Curriculum.
Every opportunity is taken to define what we mean by bullying, giving plenty of opportunities for pupils to discuss, to play and to realize the potential consequences.
It is important to teach children about the different types of bullying:
(a) Physical bullying.
(b) Emotional bullying - threats, intimidation, name calling, humiliating, vilifying, ignoring, forcing to give etc.
SIGNS OF BULLYING
1. Child turns introvert.
2. Child changes character.
3. Signs of physical abuse.
4.Reluctance to come to school.
5. Reluctance to go out and play.
6.Decline in the standard work.
ASSURANCE TO THE ONE THAT IS BULLYED
1.Readiness of a member of staff to listen to the complaint.
2. Assurance of confidentiality: e.g. see a teacher at play time, ask a parent to phone the school, pass a written note to staff etc..
3. Operate in conjunction with the child.
4. Monitoring results over time.
5. Allow others to bring the matter before a member of staff.

APPROACHINGTHE ONE BULLYING
1. Give him or her a fair chance to say their part.
2. Explain the possible consequences and punishment.
3.Give him/her a punishment according to the school guidelines.
4. Emphasize that there is only one opportunity before the anti- bullying mechanism is put to work.
DEALING WITH THE BULLY
1. Take the matter (with evidence / witnesses) to the Head.
2. Contact the children’s parents - the bully and the one being bullied.
3. Keep a written record of the events(teacher to keep notes in the pupils file).
4. Interview the parents separately.

IF THE BULLYING PERSISTS, THEN PUPIL EXCLUSION PROCEDURES WILL BE CONSIDERED.
