YOUTH VIOLENCE IN THE HOME

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING IN MANDURAH AND TUART HILL FOR THOSE WORKING WITH FAMILIES WHERE YOUTH ARE VIOLENT IN THE HOME.

Youth violence in the home [YVITH] is a serious prevalent issue for families as highlighted in two recent WA Reports; ‘Youth in the Peel Region who are Violent in the Home and/or Severely Disengaged’ and ‘The Making of Good Men and Women Summary Report: Responding to Youth Violence in the Homeand its harmful impacts on families and communities in Western Australia’.These Reports are available at

Peel Youth Services and the Making of Good Men Collaborative invite you to a unique training opportunity (the first of its kind in WA) to develop your understanding, knowledge and skills regarding youth violence, and learn strategies that can initiate changes to adolescents, parents and whole of family:

DAY 1: Wednesday 30th March (Mandurah)

Understanding of factors that influence YVITH; theoretical approaches; safety and risk assessments; practical and skill based interventions that create change (see Day 1 Flyer).

DAY 2: Thursday 31st March(Mandurah)

An interactive workshop for practitioners wanting to deliver group work programs for parents who experience youth violence and the youth who use it. (Completion of Day 1 is a pre-requisite). This training will utilize key approaches from the evidence based and positively evaluated ‘Step Up Program’ (created in Seattle USA by Lily Anderson and now available in Victoria and South Australia). DAY 1: Friday 1st April (Tuart Hill)

The Day 1 training will be replicated in Tuart Hill (see Youth Violence Training Tuart Hill Flyer)

The training facilitator is ‘Jo Howard’ who is a Social Worker and Family Therapist with over 30 years of experience. Jo is regarded as one of the most experienced and knowledgeable professionals in this field and has been instrumental in introducing the ‘Step Up’ youth violence intervention program to Australia.
