Dear Parents,

Your student receivedanorange Living Wise Activity Kit! Please DO NOT throw it away or lose it.

It contains FREE money saving devices for your home as well as activities they are required to complete for science credit. Students do not have to use the FREE devices but they do have to do the measuring activities.

Students will be required to complete all assignments in the Living Wise Student Workbook that DO NOT require changing a device in your house. The book walks you through each step. Please do not get over excited about your new free water saving devices and install them before your student has had the opportunity to complete the activities that need to be done before installing.

Living Wise Student Workbook Requirements!

The following activities are Mandatory for your child to receive full credit on the kit portion of the stamp sheet.

HomeCheck Up- Before Installing kit items Complete all questions 1-14

Toilet – Use the Toilet Leak Detector tablets to see if you have a leak. Follow ALL steps to calculate how many gallons of water you flush per flush. Pages 4-6. If your toilet has the gallons per flush written on the toilet you can just answer GPF and skip the previous calculations.

High Efficiency Showerhead - Use theFlow Rate test Bag(included in box) to calculate how many gallons of water your current showerhead uses per minute. Pg. 12

Bathroom Faucet Aerator-Flow Rate Bag Pg. 16.

Kitchen Faucet Aerator- Flow Rate bag Pg. 20

Water Heater – Use the Digital Thermometer provided to measure the temperature of your hot water. Write the temperature measured on Page 24 and if you need to adjust your water heater.

Refrigerator and Freezer – use the digital thermometer provided and measure the temperature of your fridge AND freezer. Pg 30

Your Home Activities- after Installing Kit Items. Pg. 31-32 Questions 1 - 18.

All other activities in this booklet are recommended if these activities could help your family conserve resources and money but are not necessary for your child to get full credit for this Unit. You do NOT need to install any devices if you choose not to. If you choose to replace the devices please complete the booklet so we can send the information to the Get Wise Program so they can report how much energy/water was saved by donating the kits to our school. These devices were generously donated by Southern California Edison Company and Southern California Gas Company. It is part of educating students on how they can help conserve resources.
