QUESTION

Ever wondered how much work actually goes into a multi-color T-shirt ? Have you ever wondered why screen-printers charge so much or why often times minimums are set? Over the next 4 weeks, you will work in assigned groups to research techniques and methods of multi-color screen printing. Through your research, your group will come up with a quote for the customer as well as print a multi-color T- shirt. Your group will also do a 5 minute power point presentation.

PLAN

Students will be assigned to groups. There will be 4 people to a group. Each group will contain someone to handle accounting or billing, graphic artist/set-up Tech, a printer and a supervisor, to make sure deadlines are met and schedules are adhered to.

Billing – Will come up with a quote for the customer. Remember that there is a charge for each color to be applied to the garment. There is also a set-up for each color or screen ($25 each). Add these charges into the base price of the cost for the shirts which is $3.00 per side printed on. Each additional color is .75 per shirt. Also add 12% for labor to final bill.

Graphic Artist- Develop artwork/convert to film (if customer supplied). Correct all flaws and prepare screen.

Screen-Printer- Sets up press and prints the product. Also cleans and washes out screen. All team-members will assist in the clean-up.

Supervisor/Work Flow manager- Makes sure schedule is followed. All aspects of the project/job are watched over. All parts of the project are completed on schedule to meet deadline.

SCHEDULE

Week 1: Assign groups-begin research, create/develop a quote for customer.

(Groups will be given ficticious order/job requests.) Schedule computer lab times for students to research.

Week 2: develop artwork, prepare screens.

Week 3: Complete Printed piece, all team members are to assist in development of MM presentation. Schedule computer lab times for students to complete PowerPoint Presentation.

Week 4: Turn in T-shirt and quotes. 5 minute Power-Point Presentation with use of LCD projector.

PROJECT

•Develop a quote for customer on a T-shirt order, ( the quote or bill will be printed on a 3-part reversible-carbon form) the T-shirtdesign will consist of 3 colors.

•Produce T-shirt consisting of 3 colors.

•Power Point Presentation on multi-color screen printing.

•Presentation shall be at least 6 slides long- Must contain a title,student’s names, some of the history and modern techniques used. Also give one example or technique broken down step-by-step.
