PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Grading/Assessment Criteria:

5 points available daily:

a.  1 point = appropriate dress for class

b.  1 point= participation in cardiovascular warm-up activity

c.  1 point= participation in strength/flexibility activity

d.  2 points= participation in class/group activity/game/etc…

Physical Fitness Testing/Assessment = various points assigned

Written Tests/Oral Quizzes/Performance Assessment of Skills = various points assigned

The options available to make up physical education classes missed because of an absence are explained on the back of this paper. Please review them and know your options for making up a missed class.

What qualifies for appropriate dress for physical education class?

1.  Athletic soft soled shoes (no boots/cleats/sandals/clogs/etc…)

2.  Shorts or athletic pants that meet the criteria of the school dress code.

3.  Socks

4.  T-shirts or sweatshirts that meet the criteria of the school dress code.

5.  Clothes should be changed due to hygiene. Do not wear the same clothes that you wear throughout the school day.

Lockers:

1.  School issued lockers/combination locks will be provided by Geneva Area City Schools.

2.  Lost/missing locks will be $5.

3.  P.E. instructor/principal will have access to locker/combination lock of lockers in the school.

4.  Do not share lockers with other students.

Prohibited in P.E. class/Locker Room:

Follow Geneva High School Code of Conduct at all times. Absolutely no nutritional supplements, medications (excluding asthma inhalers with Doctor’s prescription and other medical necessities – kept on file with instructor and school nurse), steroids, or over the counter medications permitted. Appropriate disciplinary action/consequences with be enforced. The act of hazing, bullying, or other inappropriate physical, social, or emotional behavior will be subjected to disciplinary measures.

Physical Education Academic Content Standards:

The State Board of Education adopted the following National Association of Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) standards in December 2007 and benchmarks and indicators on June 8, 2009. Ohio’s Academic Content Standards in Physical Education are made up of six standards:

Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

Standard 3: Participates regularly in physical activity.

Standard 4: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal behavior and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.

Standard 6: Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction.
