Do you have the drive, people skills, and administrative skills to manage a two-person office and run a business in the boss’ absence?

Your Edge for Success (YES) LLC, a small, fast-growing,five-year-old writing services business based in Cathedral Heights (NW DC), seeks afull-time office manager. You will be involved in virtually all aspects of running a small business. Those interested in future entrepreneurship will find the position and its potential follow-on promotions especially rewarding. Please note: We are not on a metro line, so you must either drive (we have free guest parking), take the bus, or walk.

YES provides services to professionals, nonprofit organizations, and businesses,including resume/career transition (over 90% of our business),proposal writing, business writing, ghost writing,and editing. The woman-owned company is run by an entrepreneur with a team of highly experienced contract writers who provide YES’ top-drawer services. We have DC’s top rating on Yelp for a writing service business, an A rating on Angie’s List, and an A rating at the Better Business Bureau.

You will be responsible for the following:

  1. Sales. You will handle incoming inquiries from people interested in our services, set up consultations as appropriate, and provide consultations to close sales. You will receive a sales script and be trained in how to tailor it to the prospect’s specific situation. You will also follow up with people who postpone their decision until after the call or who purchase a service. This will be a good chance for you to develop sales skills invaluable to your success in any field and in life generally.
  2. Administration and Management. You will handle administrative and management matters using your problem-solving, multi-tasking, communication, and people skills.When the boss is working, routine tasks will include scanning business cards and recording tasks in SalesForce, entering referrals into a database, and adding new contacts on LinkedIn and to the mailing list. When the boss is on leave, you will run the entire business (sales and service provision) with email support from her. You will also assist with hiring(posting opportunities, vetting applications, doing reference checks) when we need more contractors.
  3. Editing. While drafting will typically be provided by contractors, your responsibilities may include editing resumes, cover letters, and occasionally other materials. When contractor coverage is not available, you may be assigned to draft resumes and cover letters.
  4. Website and Marketing. You will work as webmaster of the WordPress website and Facebook page and assist with creating the monthly Successletter.
  5. Other responsibilities as assigned.

Commitment:

  • 40+ hours per week.
  • Minimum one year commitment; longer term preferred.

Qualifications:

•High school diploma required, bachelor’s degree preferred

•Self-starter; go-getter

•Business studies or experience helping to grow a small business preferred

•Strong oral communication (fast thinker) and people skills

•High degree of professionalism and willingness to be coached

•Positive attitude, patience, and resourcefulness

•Absolute reliability

•Strong writing/editing skills

•Record of achievement, creativity, and drive

•Skills in MS Office (Word, Excel) and Internet

•Fast note-taker/typist preferred
