ESTABLISHMENT AND DEVELOPMENT

Founded in the year 1991 by the Istanbul Marmara Education Foundation T.C. Maltepe University is the newest member of the Marmara Education Institutions family. The University received its first admissions in the year 1997at the heritage buildingin downtown Maltepe and since 2003has been continuing its quest for academic and social leadership in higher educationat the100 square hectometers of campus area rightfullynamed The MarmaraEducation Village. Situated at the midst of the pine forest the tranquil campus provides an ideal environment for study and research whereas being only minutes away from the upbeat and dynamic tempo of the metropolitan lifeof Istanbul. Other than the Education Village the University operates at two other venues; the Dragos Campus at the Marmara shoreline where the Nursing and the Vocational School operates and the School of Medicine in downtown Maltepe.

At present the University comprises 9 faculties, 3 institutes, 1 vocational school and 1 nursing school, and makes contributions to the Turkish and world science with scientific research and publications.

Having largely completed its institutionalization, the university has secured its place in the Turkish University system in high esteem with its distinguished academics and administrative staff.

The Academic Staff

The Academic Staff is meticulously selected amongst candidates whose educational and/or professional background proves to be in compliance with the educational philosophy of the University and the demands of the competitive, creative and disciplined nature of academic and professional prowess. The Academic Personnel of our University offers a unique balance of the energy and enthusiasm of the younger generation of academicians who are either at the beginning or relatively younger stages of their careers and the more senior and veteran academicians who have gained respect, credibility and experience through years of dedicated study, research and teaching.

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

As an Institution we strongly advocate cooperative partnerships and/or fellowships. Our objective is to develop lasting Academic, Social and Recreational liaisons with institutions all over the world. As a member of EUA, we are strongly pursuing the credentials set forth by the Bologna Process and have been an active member of the Life Long Learning / Erasmus Program. Currently we have bi-lateral agreements with more than 40 Universities for the purposes of students and teaching staff mobility. Our students can study English one year at The Ball State University or Arkansas University. The The International UNESCO Chair of TİSBİ Academy of Management in Tataristan Besides we are a member of European League of the Institutes of Art and has initiated the screening process with International Association of Film and Television Schools and other accreditation bodies will surely follow. We are always on the search for expanding the limits of our relationships.

We also believe in the benefits of conducting and the active involvement of our students and academicians in workshops, social, recreational activities and festivals both at the national and the international level.

MARMARA EDUCATION VILLAGE

Marmara Education Village, located away from the tiring city life, comprises almost all facilities essential for a campus which is built utilizing all means of the modern technology. The motto of the Marmara Education Village is “From Kindergarten to University”.

Marmara Educational Institutions were founded on the principle of "First education, then academic improvement" in İstanbul-Maltepe in 1991 with its kindergarten, primary school and high school. Our institutions are equipped with modern classrooms with the capacity of 20 to 200 students, auditoriums with the capacity of 500 to 850 people, gymnasium with a capacity of 3500 people , olympic swimming pool, pool for the children, billiard saloons, basketball and voleyball courts, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, football pitches, badminton court, ice rink, gymnastics saloon, mini golf course, fitness saloon, squash saloon, ballet saloon, amphi-theatre, parent recreation rooms, zoo, lodgings, health center, refectory, cafes, markets book stores, greenhouse and hobby gardens, as well as guest recreational facilities, etc

DRAGOS CAMPUS

Dragos campus is located in Dragos by the Kartal coastal road on the Asian side of Istanbul. Covering an area of 1,5 hectares, the campus houses the Vocational School offering day and night classes.

MALTEPE CAMPUS

The Faculty of Medicine and Practice and Research Hospitals serve at Maltepe centre, on the campus where the university was first founded.

OUR OBJECTIVE and The language of education

Maltepe University aims to make contributions to the urban culture and art in the academic sense through production, to competently educate its students within this culturally-rich environment, to further raise the bar of science with distinctive research, and to share the knowledge produced with the Turkish and the around the world people. Graduates of Maltepe University launch into life with critical and creative thinking abilities, and protect the fundamental values of the democracy, the Republic and secularism, integrating their social sensitivity and responsibility with moral principles.

The language of education is in Turkish but it is obligatory for the students to possess a certain level of English proficiency as that speaking a foreign language is an indisputable requirement in this globalizing world. New students, who fail to pass the Department of Foreign Languages Proficiency Exam given at the beginning of each academic year, are provided with a one-year intensive English language program at the Department of Foreign Languages which applies modern language teaching methods and techniques. English language education continues throughout the 4-year undergraduate education with professional foreign language courses included in the undergraduate curricula.Besides,30 per cent of the courses in each department aretaught in English. Whereas some departments like the Department of Software and Computer Engineering, International Relations and EU, International Trade and Logistics are offering a full curriculum in English as an alternate.

In this context, students establish clubs in line with their fields of interest, or participate in already existing ones, to improve their personal aptitudes and skills, and have the opportunity to gain experience in different fields and contribute to their personal development.

MOEFS is only for those applicants who wish to enroll in undergraduate programs but have not taken any other College Entrance Examination. TUTION
Maltepe University is a foundation university. Those international students who are admitted to a degree program other than Medicine at Maltepe University are required to pay a yearly tuition fee 13000 US Dolar. Tution fees for enrollment to the Faculty of Medicine, is 17000 US Dolar. Tution fee including room and boarding for one year University Preparatory English Course for English-medium Undergraduate

Programmes is 13500 Euros.

International exchange students who are admitted to a program through Bilateral Agreements or Erasmus Program are exempt from tuition fees.

SPORTS COMPLEX

The Marmara Education Village Sports Complex aims to help everyone with an interest in sports adopt the habit of a “Healthy Life” with special programs based on scientific data and carried out by academic staff. You will find warm and affectionate attention at the Sports Centre located in the middle of the nature and consider sports an important part of your life.

LIBRARY

Our library gathers sources of knowledge in line with the requirements of the faculties, institutes and vocational schools of our University and is in a perpetual development with the currency of the periodical publications. Providing support to education, training and research programs, our library also provides all sources and facilities for the academic personnel, students and administrative personnel.

Online access to databases, e-magazines and e-books is available.

Interlibrary Loans (ILL) service is available at the Central Library.

The Library is open between 8.30-22.00 on weekdays and between 8.30-13.30 on Saturdays.

STUDENT RESIDENCE HALLS

Marmara Education Village Student Residence Halls with its 504-student capacity and 14 buildings which are in 15-minute distance to Maltepe downtown. They were built 100 % resistant against all hazards of a possible earthquake and equipped in a sense that make you feel as if you were home.

In each floor of our three-storey buildings, there are two flats and there is a studio flat in the middle. In standard flats, there are three rooms, a bathroom with a toilet, a shared space and a kitchen. In studio flats, there are two rooms with a bathroom with its toilet, a shared space and a kitchen. Rooms are for maximum three students. Female and male students stay in different buildings.

To provide our students a safer atmosphere to live, there are electronic door entrance and camera systems in the building entrances.

Marmara Education Village combining nature with life is providing opportunities for youth to be healthier, more dynamic and more productive.
